Feast Your Eyes: Little bacon sandwich

a little bacon sandwich
The no-knead bread recipe has gone around and around the internet. People have taken it and made it their own in numerous ways. James Starmer has taken the no-knead bread and turned it into a batch of rolls (using a steam baking technique to get that nice, glossy crust). He smeared some with honey and turned on into that adorable bacon bun you see above. Delicious!

Thanks James, for adding this tasty little nibble to the Slashfood Flickr pool.

Equation for the Perfect Bacon Sandwich

perfect bacon sandwichYou say you spent a lot of time in the kitchen coming up with the "perfect" something - omelet? salad? macaroni and cheese?

But you have nothing, and I mean nothing, on researchers at Leeds University, who spent over 1,000 hours testing 700 variations of the bacon butty, aka a bacon sandwich.

The study, which was commissioned by the Danish Bacon and Food Council, is not a joke. How could it be, when the scientists actually derived an equation? If you're wondering what it takes to make the perfect bacon sandwich, it's N = C + {fb(cm) · fb(tc)} + fb(Ts) + fc · ta.

I've been meaning to figure out the perfect recipe for Korean BBQ ribs (galbee). Looks like I have a lot of hours to put in.

French toast and bacon sandwich

This French toast and bacon sandwich could just be the ultimate breakfast sandwich - assuming that you aren't in the least bit worried about your weight and that you enjoy indulging in the morning, of course. It starts off with two thick slices of bread, soaked in an egg and milk mixture then fried into perfectly cooked french toast. The toast is then topped with a generous amount of lightly crisped bacon, allowing the pieces of overlap and for two layers. Once the bacon is in place, pour on some maple syrup and add the top piece of french toast. Eat with a knife and fork.

The end product is salty, sweet, filling and in no way can be considered health food. Ah well. You can't win them all, right?

Bacon cereal: not a part of a balanced breakfast

F

From the creator of the Ultimate Bacon Sandwich comes the latest in bacon-saturated dining: bacon cereal. This isn't bacon flavored cereal bits or bacon-shaped rice puffs. It is a bowl of chopped up bacon (one full pound) with blue cheese dressing acting as "milk" and bacon bits on top - like a wedge salad, in a bowl, without the formality of lettuce. The chef had this to say about eating it: "I'm not sure how to describe the feeling of eating this. It was far worse than the Ultimate Bacon Sandwich. It probably compares to being electrocuted while having your wisdom teeth removed by a back alley dentist. My tongue burned with each bite from the sodium content. I was certain that I couldn't finish the entire bowl, at least not without severe intestinal repercussions. But, I knew that under no circumstance was I ever going to do this again so it's a one shot deal. The last bite went down about as smoothly as a pile of broken glass, but I made it. "

I'm sensing a new challenge for competitive eaters everywhere, not to mention the reason that iceberg lettuce is so vital to the wedge
