Slashfood is going Nuts in November!

Here at Slashfood, we're crazy about food - and we're definitely crazy about writing about it. But this month we're going nuts for... nuts!

When we think of fall foods, nuts play a prominent role in our menus. There are pecan pies for dessert and spiced and candied nuts that are set out when friends come over for an afternoon of hanging out in front of the fire on a cold day, not to mention the fact that many stuffing recipes include nuts in them. Nuts add richness and flavor to most dishes and since there are so many kinds, they are very versatile. On Monday, November 20th, we'll be covering some of our favorite nut recipes and other nutty ideas all day long. We'll probably even have a couple of suggestions that you can incorporate into your Thanksgiving dinner!

If you have a blog of your own and want to join us, write up a post (and don't forget the food porn!) with your favorite recipe that involves nuts in any form and send us a note with the link. We'll round up all the posts at the end of the day on the 20th.

Slashfood's Steak Day: May 30th

Perhaps it's the start of the summer grilling season, but we're getting hungry here at Slashfood. And sometimes nothing satisfies quite as much as a nice, thick, juicy steak. Of course, we're not crazy enough to steal any steaks, but we do get a little excited at the possibilities that steak has to offer. After all, we're not about to limit ourselves to a simple t-bone when there are hundreds, thousands of different and delicious dishes that can be made with different cuts of everyone's favorite red meat, from cheese steak to dirty steak.

On Tuesday, May 30th, we'll be celebrating our love of red meat by cooking up some sizzling steak dishes of our own, but we'd also like to see what you're doing with your steaks. If you have a food blog, post an entry and submit a link to us.

If you're looking for somewhere to start beefing up your knowledge about steak, you can learn about the different grades of beef or the leanest cuts. Otherwise you'll just have to wait until we post the roundup.

Welcome to our Garden Party!

Slashfood's Garden Party!Today is Slashfood's Garden Party! Thanks for joining us.

Since the weather is warming up and the days are getting longer, we've decided that it's just the right time of year to head outside, brush off our patio furniture and have a few of our friends and family over. We're not staying out all day - it is still a bit too chilly in the evenings for that - but we want to enjoy the springtime as much as possible. All day we'll be featuring some of our favorite recipes and ideas for entertaining outdoors in the spring. We'll use some of our favorite ingredients, like asparagus, eggs and chocolate and whip up some great creations to wow both your taste buds and all of your friends', too.

Stay tuned!

It's Spring Cleaning Day!

Have unmarked cans lurking around the back of your pantry? Spices you bought when they were on sale and never used? Well, dust off your under-utilized waffle iron or crock pot and get cooking with it! At Slashfood, we think that there is no better time to clean out your cupboards and start off with a fresh batch of ingredients than the beginning of spring. Today, we're pulling everything out of our cupboards and trying to use it up - after all, how else can we make room for all the new goodies we'll find at the grocery store in the next couple of months? We'll be thinking up ways to maximize the canned and dry goods that we never seem to quite run out of and offer suggestions for restocking the pantry once your cleanup is done.

Stay tuned for lots of suprises and some of the following:

  • How to stock a basic pantry
  • Making buttermilk scones with white chocolate chips
  • Marshmallow cereal bars for kids and kids at heart
  • What do bachelors keep at home?
  • Uses for basic marinara sauce
  • Shelf lives of common pantry items
