According to the Humane Society, Ben & Jerry's has been buying eggs from a company that mistreats chickens. In fact, the Humane Society wants to expose the ice cream maker for its hypocrisy, claiming that Ben & Jerry's mission of "a continued commitment to incorporating wholesome, natural ingredients and promoting business practices that respect the Earth and the Environment," is in direct contrast to "the reality that Ben & Jerry's is actually supporting cruel and inhumane treatment" of animals.
The Humane Society said that despite finding that Michael Foods, an egg farm in Minnetonka, MN, had chickens that were dying of starvation, sick or injured chickens were caught in cage wires, and live chickens were among the dead ones, Ben & Jerry's continued to buy up to 30 million eggs a year from the company.
