Hippest food packaging-cum-accessories

In this age of recycling, what's a trendy, cola-drinking gal to do when she finishes off her carbonated beverage of choice?

Why, make it into a necklace, of course! All the cool kids are turning their food and drink packaging into something lasting and eco-friendly: jewelry and accessories that are surprisingly fashionable and wearable, in that quirky, I-just-polished-off-a-Kit-Kat sort of way.

Here are some of coolest accessories made from food we could find. Here's hoping the designers rinsed them out first.

Ice Spoons

Have you ever seen one of those spoons that is dipped in honey, candy/sugar or chocolate before packaging? The idea with those is that they can be stirred into hot drinks to add flavor. These ice spoons work on the same principle, but for cold drinks. Possible applications include: filling them with juice and use them to flavor iced tea or other drinks as they melt and filling them with the tea (lemonade, etc) to easily stir in sugar and cool the drink all at the same time - without diluting it with extra ice. Of course, they'll look good when just filled with plain water, too.

There are also applications for serving with these, putting little bits of appetizers that you want to remain cold  on the end of each spoon.

More fast food fashion

Accessories combine fast food and fashion much more effectively than trying to turn french fries into clothing. Spiral and Circle offers a variety of cute, plush, food-themed accessories, including the coin purses shown above, a hamburger handbag and a hot dog eyeglass case. For anyone who isn't entirely comfortable carrying around a purse - though surely a large plush hamburger conveys an air of masculinity - they stock many other food related items, including a ball point pen disguised as a pizza and hamburger and pizza-shaped pillows. Could wearing your food instead of eating it become the next big diet trend?

Veuve Cliquot's Tw'ice Bucket

Need a novel way to keep your Clicquot cold? Veuve Clicquot's Tw'ice Bucket can clip on to the side of your table, or, by rotating half of the bucket ("a playful somersault," they say), it can stand on its own. The Clicquot website sells them for $100. Slightly less elegant and way cheaper is the Clicquot Ice Jacket, basically a little wetsuit for your champagne bottle. It's only $10. Hell, they even sell Clicquot-yellow ties and cuff links to match. The folks over at Cool Hunting found the Tw'ice Bucket for sale at Malmaison for only £39. Malmaison sells Veuve Clicquot wellies so you can "traipse around your estate." The Clicquot people seem to be in some sort of marketing frenzy.

For the serious tailgater

Folks, all I can say is start getting ready for next year. What you see here is the Cook's BBQ Kitchen from Cook Industries. Basically an entire kitchen that fits in a galvanized locker that can be 'docked' on your tailgate. It has three 30,000 BTU burners, a griddle, a microwave, a refrigerator, lighting and sinks. It even comes with a circuit breaker so you can run it at home or off a generator or voltage inverter. The site also has accessories like batteries and hot water taps. The main unit can be yours for roughly $4K. Like I said, start getting ready now.
