Wii Boxing on Park Avenue

nintendo wii flyer
"Who doesn't love Wii?" says the manager I spoke with at Wildwood BBQ, a restaurant on Park Avenue at 18th Street in Manhattan.

Every Tuesday night since August, Wildwood BBQ, a classy new ribs joint off Union Square, has hosted Wii Boxing with cheap beer and big prizes. There's a pre-tournament warm up at 8:00pm, when anyone can play, then signup for the tournament begins at 8:30. Sixteen guests can play for a chance to win $100 gift certificates good at any of BR Guest's restaurants.

Sign up at the 50-foot bar for a chance to play, and starting at 9:30 pick up a $12 pitcher of Cold Ass beer (pardon my English; that's really what it's called).

Rumor has it that some undisclosed celebrities may be stepping into the ring one of these weeks! Get there if you can.

Batali and Morimoto Gear Up to Battle Your Wii Miis

Iron Chef America for the WiiRemember that YouTube clip of the upcoming Iron Chef America game for the Wii that Shayna shared back in March? Well, now we've got more solid details about what faces have made it from the transition between show and game, courtesy of Eater.

Mario Batali and Masaharu Morimoto are definitely in. (Check out their Mii versions through the Eater link.) Batali says: "I'm delighted to be involved with Iron Chef America: Supreme Cuisine. My video game counterpart is as passionate and competitive in the virtual Kitchen Stadium as I am in real life, and I think the participation of Chef Morimoto and I adds a great level of authenticity to the game."

But what about the other guys? Alton Brown, Cat Cora, Bobby Flay, and new Iron Chef Michael Symon? They are curiosly missing from the press release, but if you check out that cover to the right, it certainly looks like at least Cora and Brown are involved. Since Flay ISN'T on the cover, I assume that means he's not a part of this.

We'll know for sure soon enough -- the game hits shelves this fall.

Gamer geek love results in Mii chocolate sell-out

mii chocolates
Who knew gamers -- the ones who hole themselves up in their basements alone with their consoles for weeks at a time -- could be so lovey dovey?

Paul Pape designed these little Mii milk, white, or dark chocolates that come two in a box that's shaped like a console. The figures inside have tiny red hearts to indicate their love. They're totally cute for Valentine's Day, but they are sold out! OH NO! If you're creative enough, I'm sure you could put together something like this, or something even better, for your gamer love.

Cooking Mama Cook-off means video games are family fun

cooking mama cookoff
Now that the kids are going off to school, it's time to tear the little monsters away from the video games and force them to buckle down on their studying, right?

Right. As in "Yeah, right, like you're really going to get them to stop playing video games."

Be not discouraged, parents. Instead of banning video games completely, you can turn it into a family activity. You still have to do family Quality Time during the school year, right? Cooking Mama, the video game we've mentioned before that lets you cook without having to get into the kitchen, has a new version out for the Nintendo Wii called Cooking Mama Cook-off. What a great way to train your kids so that in a few months, they can cook dinner for themselves. Of course, when they head off to class, you can use the Wii to do a little workout before you have to rush out to pick them up from soccer practice.

P.S. Nintendo Wiis are hard to get a hold of, but you can win one from CoolHunting and ThisNext.

Tip of the Day

December may have peppermint bark, but have you thought to incorporate the taste of autumn into white chocolate with a rich pumpkin swirl?
