Top Chef goes Project Runway

Willy Wonka and Oompa loompasSpoiler alert! Spoiler alert!

Oh Bravo. Let's not kid ourselves: The Elimination Challenge from this week's Top Chef episode was about as Project Runway as it gets. The contestants worked in pairs to create dishes inspired by their favorite movies, and it felt almost like Tom Colicchio was channeling Michael Kors in his criticism ("They talked about vibrant colors -- I didn't see vibrant colors there").

If Christian Siriano were a sandwich...

Christian SirianoHe would be the Super Duper Colossal sandwich from Chick & Ruth's Delly in Annapolis, Maryland. That's according to Endless Simmer, who has selected sandwiches to match all four the Project Runway finalists. As a huge Project Runway enthusiast, I feel qualified to evaluate these selections, and they're pretty dead on. The only one I disagreed with slightly was Jillian's French Dip sandwich from Philippes in L.A.. I would have paired her with something classier, maybe a pesto panini with grilled vegetables or something.

The post is pretty funny if you're familiar with the show. And it seems that I've recently found myself fascinated by attempts to describe people in terms of food -- as you can probably tell from this and my Obama Roll post. It has me wondering what food I would be. Probably curry chicken salad with grapes. Or maybe I just think that because it's one of my favorite foods. What would you be?

Free T-shirts from Starbucks

Are you a fan of Starbucks? What about Bravo's Project Runway? The coffee giant teamed up with season 3 finalist Mychael Knight to produce some limited edition, customizable coffee t-shirts that are being given away at MyStarbucksShirt.com. The site has an application that allows you to put your favorite drink combination onto a shirt, providing everyone with something that is both very Starbucks and very you.

Before you get too excited, there are a couple of restrictions on this promotion. The giveaway began on February 15th and only lasts until February 28th. A total of only 10,000 t-shirts will be given out, meaning that there is a limited number available every day and they sell out quickly! The best strategy for acquisition is to try to get online as close to 10am PST (1pm eastern) as possible, as that is when the promo "refreshes" every day with a new batch of shirts.

The combo I came up with (pictured) isn't something that I would necessarily order when I go out for coffee, but it makes for a pretty interesting shirt. What will your Starbucks shirt - assuming you are lucky enough to get one - say?
