Photo of the Day: Broccoli and Potato soup

a bowl of broccoli and potato soup
Today's Photo of the Day is perfectly timed for National Soup Month (with all these soup posts, you'd think I have soup on the brain or something). Prepared and photographed by Maggiejumps (you can find her blog here), the recipe comes from Veganomicon. In the note under the image on Flickr, she comments that there was some worry in her household about a broccoli soup that wasn't creamy or enriched with some dairy but that they shouldn't have fretted, the soup was wonderful.

Remember to join us on Flickr and add your pictures to the Slashfood group. We want to see your gorgeous food creations (as well as those lovable, tasty messes).

Photo of the Day: Power Ball Snack

an image of power ball snacks, granola balls
Today's featured photo comes to us from Tiny Morsels and is of a series of nicely plated Power Ball Snacks. The recipe originally comes from Heidi Swanson's Super Natural Cooking (Heidi is one of my very favorite food bloggers) and Tiny Morsels has adapted it slightly to ensure that it is gluten free.

Thanks to everyone who has joined the Slashfood Flickr group recently and has been adding pictures to our pool. I also loved seeing all the pictures of your favorite kitchen things. Keep them coming!

Photo of the Day: A quick salmon dinner

photo of the day: plate of salmon with veggies and mashed potatoes
I love the honesty that accompanies this image of a beautifully plated piece of salmon. Yakman admits that the veggies were frozen and that the pesto came from a jar, but is also careful to state that the fish is fresh from a local market. I like the combination of time saving convenience foods with the lovely piece of salmon. Sometimes that's just what you have to do to get dinner on the table.

Join the Slashfood Flickr group and submit your images to the pool to be considered for the Photo of the Day feature. We want to see your pics of gorgeous meals, beautiful ingredients and farmers market hauls.

Photo of the Day: Mini apple pies

mini apples pies baked in individual ramekins
Miniature food items never fail to totally charm me. Pecan tassies are my favorite cookies, primarily because of their status as pint-sized pecan pies. In today's photo, Rebekah has made some adorable (and very tasty-looking) individual apple pies in ramekins. She claims that it was her first attempt at apple pie, but I would tend to doubt her assertion, since they came out looking so flaky-crusted and perfect.

Don't forget to join the Slashfood Flickr group and add your pictures. Your image might be chosen as the Photo of the Day!

Come join us on the Slashfood Flickr group

Chances are, the vast majority of you reading this post right now are familiar with Flickr (and if you're not, the quick explanation is that it is a photo sharing website with lots of ways to engage in acts of community). What you may not know is that Slashfood actually has our own Flickr group. It's been around since late summer of 2005 and has more than 5,000 gorgeous, drool-inducing images of food in all states of preparedness.

The amazing thing is that even though we've neglected the group in the recent months, people have still been adding some amazing images to it. What we want to do is to get even more of you involved in adding gorgeous food photography (and accompanying recipes, if you want to share) to the pool so that we can bring back the Photo of the Day feature. We know that there is lots of good cooking, baking, shopping, preserving, roasting and braising going on out there and we want to see some of it. If your photo is selected to be featured, we'll get in touch to let you know, give you full credit for the image/recipe and link to your site/blog (if you have one).

And now, to whet your appetite for all the food gorgeousness that will be coming with the Photo of the Day, the image you see above was submitted to our Flickr pool yesterday by Jennifer at Bake or Break. She talks about these chocolate-filled cupcakes on her blog as well as her love of vanilla paste and her dislike of frosting. And now I want a cupcake!

Tip of the Day

Your recipe calls for butter or another fat. Depending on the quantity called for, there are different times you should add it.
