Do you have a personal blog? No -- but I do have a Twitter account. Does that count? It is, technically speaking, "micro-blogging."...
What is your day job, or rather, what do you do when you're not blogging? I am the summer food intern at AOL Food until the end of August, and happy to report I will be continuing my stay with the AOL Food team as a full-time contractor thereafter.
How long have you been blogging with Slashfood and what is your favorite post? My first post was in June about a Washington hotel keeping honeybees on their roof -- those types of stories are always fun because I get to incorporate as many "bee" and "buzz" puns as possible. As far as favorites go, I really enjoy conjuring up my "Table for One" series -- partly because I have a delicious meal waiting for me at the end, and partly because cooking for one is a niche that I feel is often left unnoticed in many cooking publications.
What is your day job, or rather, what do you do when you're not food blogging?
I write about food for other publications like Time Out New York, Gourmet and Metromix. I've also written for places including The New York Times, Interior Design, ELLE, New York Magazine and Salon. And I was a baker in a past life before attending the French Culinary Institute for formal training. How long have you been blogging with Slashfood and what is your favorite post?
Less than a month. If we're talking about a favorite post that I've written, I'm partial to my post about cooking an ostrich egg.
When new bloggers join the Slashfood team, we like to make sure they get a proper introduction to our readers. You've metGretchen Roberts, Eric Diesel,Mike Pomranz, and Annie Scott. Now meet the latest addition to our team, Amy McDaniel. Do you have a personal blog? That's kind of personal question. And, no.
What is your day job, or rather, what do you do when you're not food blogging? I do some freelance writing for Saveur, and I'm working on my first book. Somewhat more profitably, I teach English at a small liberal arts college. Hmm, I wonder if my students ever google me. Should I censor myself on Slashfood?
How long have you been blogging with Slashfood and what is your favorite post? This is my third or fourth post. My favorite so far is the one that mentions Alice B. Toklas because someone referred to her recipe for Hashish Brownies in the comments this one (upon reflection).
Do you have any non-food-related, non-blogging hobbies? I co-host a poetry and fiction reading series in Atlanta with an impolite name.
Not every foodie does, so we have to ask: Do you cook? Why yes. Earlier this week I made dinner for one: roasted halibut with shitake-miso broth and udon noodles. When I entertain, I either go all out, which usually involves charcuterie, or for something more casual I stick to my grandmother's southern recipes.
What is your most prized utensil/gadget in the kitchen? A wooden spoon that belonged to my great-grandmother.
What is your day job, or rather, what do you do when you're not food blogging?
I'm a writer and a homekeeper.
How long have you been blogging with Slashfood and what is your favorite post?
I just started with Slashfood but I've written a couple of pieces for AOL Food. I still get email from a piece I wrote last autumn about cafeterias, that wound up also being about my grandmother. I guess that, to me, they're linked.
Do you have any non-food-related, non-blogging hobbies?
I love classic films, especially women's pictures from the golden era of Hollywood, 50's melodramas, 30's musicals, exploitation flicks and midnight movies, the French New Wave, and silents. I also love contemporary art and I follow that scene. And I love books, especially Beat literature and anything related to the Beat literary movement.
When new bloggers join the Slashfood team, we like to make sure they get a proper introduction to our readers. You've met Annie Scott,Monika Bartyzel, Stefani Pollack and Alanna Kaufman. Now meet the latest addition to our team, Mike Pomranz. Do you have a personal blog?
A friend once told me: "You need to post a website or something. How the hell am I supposed to know what you're up to?" She was kidding. I have serious problems.
For the election season, you can read my Election '08 comedy blog, Slander '08. Coming soon, I'm launching Wiijuvenated to deal with my Wii addiction. You can also often find me blogging on behalf of my rock band here or my musical comedy duo here. And if you're a fan of blogs that haven't been updated in years, feel free to look here, here, here and, uh, even here. (Please note, many of these blogs are not safe for work or for society in general.) Maybe one day I'll stick with a blog for more than two months at a time. What is your day job, or rather, what do you do when you're not food blogging?
As a writer, comedian and musician, I spend a lot of time on the couch.
Do you have a personal blog? Yes, I do. It's Movingatthespeedoflife.blogspot.com. Longest URL ever! I've been meaning to change it for a long time. I get carpal tunnel symptoms every time I type that thing in. What is your day job, or rather, what do you do when you're not drink blogging? I bartend at Union restaurant in Seattle. Ethan Stowell, the chef and owner, has recently been nominated for a James Beard award (Best NW Chef) and was named among the ten best new chefs of 2008 by Food and Wine magazine. It's an exciting time to be at the restaurant, that's for sure. He gives me freedom behind the bar, so I'm doing my best to offer cocktails that can stand up to all the hard work the kitchen guys are doing. So many restaurants/bartenders just mail it in when it comes to cocktail programs. I want Union to be different. How long have you been blogging with Slashfood and what is your favorite post? Been here since February, I think. Prior to that I blogged for AOL Drinks. My favorite post is the recent Mint Julep post, mostly because of all the beautiful quotes I pulled and that video link brings a tear to this old bartender's eye.
Do you have any non-food-related, non-blogging hobbies? Hobbies? Who has time for hobbies? Does reading count? Does going out on the town?
Do you have a personal blog? I have a few anonymous ones, but none that I update regularly.
What is your day job, or rather, what do you do when you're not food blogging?
Lots and lots of writing. My days are filled with movies and food.
How long have you been blogging with Slashfood and what is your favorite post? I'm still in my first month at Slashfood! It's too early to name a favorite.
Do you have any non-food-related, non-blogging hobbies? I've been known to converse with animals, drink rare beer brands, and read Henry Miller.
What is your day job, or rather, what do you do when you're not food blogging? I am currently a senior at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. I study English and Political Science, and I hope to attend law school in the fall.
How long have you been blogging with Slashfood and what is your favorite post? Four days and counting! I love the post by Shayna about the world's largest wedding cake -- that thing is beautiful! It's my secret dream to be professional cake decorator, and I sometimes sit in Barnes & Noble, flipping through entire books on wedding cakes. I've never seen one that awesome before.
Do you have any non-food-related, non-blogging hobbies? I'm taking a drawing class, and I love anything crafty. Also shopping, reading, guitar hero, Project Runway and Top Chef, wandering around Philadelphia and playing with friends.
