Washing Kumquats - Feast Your Eyes

Kumquats in a colander
When I was out in Ojai in January, there were kumquat trees scattered all around the Inn where I stayed. Seeing Lelo's huge colander makes me wish I had snuck out under cover of darkness and filled a bag with some of those gorgeous kumquats, because now I want to replicate the Kumquat Vanilla Marmalade she made recently.

Thanks Lelo!

Giant, Leafy Cabbage - Feast Your Eyes

a giant green leafy head of cabbage
This gorgeous, enormous, bright green cabbage comes to us from blogger Lelo in Nopo. She and her partner recently rejoined a Portland-area CSA called Organics to You, that drops a box of organic produce right on their front porch each week (I wish there were CSA programs in Philly that delivered) and a couple of weeks ago, that cabbage was part of their share. Such amazing color!

Thanks Lelo!

Feast Your Eyes: Dragonfly cookiepress

dragonfly cookiepress
Last December, while I was visiting my parents out in Portland, OR, my mom divested the majority of her cookie cutter collection straight into my suitcase (it was either that or the thrift store, and I couldn't bear to part with cookie cutters I'd used all throughout my childhood). Included in the bag of cutters were two cookie presses, much like the one that is being shown in the picture above. I've used them only once, on a batch of rosemary shortbread. This picture reminds me that I need to pull them out of the pot holder drawer in my kitchen and make something with them (mine are decorated with a teddy bear and a fleur de lis pattern).

Thanks Lelonopo, for adding your image to the Slashfood pool and reminding me to make some cookies!

Feast Your Eyes: Happy 4th of July!

a blueberry and raspberry tart
Happy 4th of July, Slashfood readers! In honor of today's holiday, I bring you a patriotic dessert from blogger/photographer Lelonopo for you to really feast your eyes on. She's created a blueberry and raspberry treat that isn't as aggressively red, white and blue as that famous flag cake, but is still appealingly thematic for the day.

I hope that everyone has a wonderful day today, filled with delicious food, awe-inspiring fireworks and safe, happy times. We look forward to seeing pictures of all the tasty things you created today, so make sure to take photos and upload them to the Slashfood Flickr pool!
