Ferran Adria Will Make a Big Announcement in March [VIDEO]

Spanish Chef Ferran Adrià told Slashfood that he will be showing plans, photos and details of the much-anticipated "reinvention" of his legendary restaurant El Bulli at a press conference in New York City in March 2011.

Adrià said he has signed a deal with the multinational telecommunications company Telefónica to become a brand ambassador, and that he is working on details of the New York announcement with the company.

During an interview October 13 at the Hotel Eventi's Bar Basque after a screening of the documentary "A Day at El Bulli," he did share a few details about the major changes coming El Bulli, the restaurant in Roses, Spain which receives two million reservation requests a year for just a few thousand places.

The new El Bulli will be more like an educational foundation than a restaurant. "There will be no reservations," Adrià said through his friend and interprereter Chef José Andrés. "And everything will change every month."

What it won't be is limited to the cuisine that made it famous, Adrià's mind-bending innovations with molecular gastronomy. "It is going to be a bigger place, but a completely new philosophy. The main mission of the foundation will be to create, and where everything they create, they will be able to share through [the] internet everyday, with everyone around the world," Andrés explained.

Is This the Restaurant of the Future?

Small plates. Swanky hotel addresses. Open floor plans. Avant-garde olives.

As customers balk at the cost of luxury dining, is this future for high-end restaurants?

With its tapas-style menu and nightclub ambiance, The Bazaar by José Andrés, a Beverly Hills, Calif., bar and restaurant, grossed $13 million last year when other luxury establishments like D'Amico Cucina in Minneapolis and Chantarelle in New York City are closing their doors, the Wall Street Journal reported.

"This restaurant-packed at a time when many others are discounting or closing their doors-may be the future of fine dining," the Journal reported.

Top Chef Season Six Contestants Announced

Top Chef judges Toby, Padma, Tom and Gail. Photo: Bravo TV.
Chef-testants for season six of Top Chef were announced today. The showdown will take place in Las Vegas, which Tom Colicchio assures us is a "very serious food town."

The primary thing a bunch of these newbies have in common? Tattoos, big time. Click through the gallery and let us know if we're wrong. That's not to say we don't spy some serious contenders in the mix. Talent ranges from Michael Voltaggio, chef de cuisine of the buzzed-about José Andrés Bazaar in Los Angeles, to the innocuous-looking (but perhaps culinarily ferocious) Jesse Sandlin, one of the tattooed toques, who sports a flower in her hair.

Don't skip the video of our four judges, in which Gail declares, "I'm eating very well," and Padma asserts, "A few of these contestants have even taught Tom a thing or two." Hmm. We'll see.

Are you stoked about Top Chef Vegas -- or are you over it by now?
