Cookthink launches the Cookthinktank

cookthinktank screengrabCookthink has only been around for a year, but for those of us who hang out on the food interwebs on a regular basis, it is hard to imagine the scene without them, as their voice has been such a positive and lovely addition to the food conversation. Here at Slashfood, we've repeatedly linked to their perfect recipes and gorgeous images. I've been inspired on many occasions to leap up from my computer and head to the kitchen after their Root Source newsletter lands in my inbox.

They recently launched a new feature that they are cleverly calling the Cookthinktank. They've formed partnerships with six food bloggers and cookbook authors, including Jaden from the Steamy Kitchen and Jess from Hogwash, in order to bring their readers even more recipes, tips and images on a regular basis. I look forward to all tasty new creations that will be springing forth from that site because of this collaboration!

Simple, crusty bread transformed into sticky buns

cheater sticky bunsDespite my success with the famed No-Knead Bread, I am something of a beginner when it comes to yeasted breads (quick breads have always been my friend, however). That is why I've been sort of intrigued by the Simple, Crusty Bread recipe that ran in the New York Times back in November. I like simple!

I'm even more convinced that I have to try out this recipe now that I see that Jess over at Hogwash has taken that recipe and turned it into cinnamon rolls. She calls the sin rolls or cheater sticky buns, and while they look sinful, I don't think that there's anything about them that cheats. They simply reinvent an old classic in a way that makes it even easier. My pants don't thank Jess, but my tastebuds sure do!

Honey orange bread pudding

French Toast PieI never ate bread pudding while I was growing up. I remember hearing about it once on a cooking show and going to ask my mom what it was. The way she described it made it sound like unappealing, dried up bits of bread in lumpy pudding and so I put it out of my mind. Fast forward to years later when I was out to eat and a friend ordered the chocolate bread pudding. When it arrived, it looked and smelled amazing. My friend noticed my fascination and offered me a bite. From that moment on, I was a convert.

Over at Hogwash, Jess has also spent years having a shaky relationship with bread pudding. However, it looks like things are changing for her now that she's made a batch of the stuff with the stale leftovers from a loaf of Honey Orange bread. She is still struggling with the name bread pudding and so has taken to calling her batch French Toast Pie. She can call it whatever she wants, as long as she's willing to share!
