Tastycooks - map based recipe finder

OK, so at the moment you can count the number of recipes on a couple of hands, but the idea is sound and could turn out to be an interesting recipe finding resource.

Tasty Cooks offers a world view via a google map and plots recipes via their home country. You click on the marker and read the details; click on these and you go to the recipe. So you have Pad Thai fried noodles displayed on Thailand with a link to google base entry or a Spanish Baked Chicken Recipe that links through to Simply Recipes.

I think how it works is, after registering, you can add your own favourite recipes with links to the specific blog or site entry. Yep, that seems to be it (he says clicking madly to see what happens). Instructions are sparse. There is a Add New Bookmark tab that opens up the form to enter the details of each link you add. So I added two - a Baked Mackerel with Rhubarb and an Austrian dessert, both recipes from my own blog.

It all works fine and if you can be bothered to add recipes you find to the map, a handy resource. (Note the map doesnt work in IE7)

Map of Food Worth Eating

This is an implementation of a Google Map covering Phoenix. From Angle Sweet to Zest Spirited Dining, one Jack hopes to cover and review all the eating places in the fair city of Pheonix via his Map of Food Worth Eating.

He writes that "Restaurant recommendations are a good idea, but even the greatest of restaurants has strengths and weaknesses. I think it's more useful to know what a particular restaurant does well instead of just a general recommendation for the restaurant."

His food map shows not only the location of each restaurant but also the food they make that he thinks is worth eating. This is a bit tricky. Should one person sample everything on a menu regularly? What about seasonal variations? Still, it is an honourable aim and a useful map for locating eating places. No overall rating for each place is the only thing missing.

Google Map of Oregon and Washington Breweries

Oregon and Washington Breweries MapNow this just might be dangerous - a google map of all the brew houses in Oregon and Washington State. As will all such mashups, you can click on a pin (in this case shaped like beer tankards) and drill down to view the exact location. Then you can get driving instructions - which is the dangerous bit as there are dozens of places to visit.

There is also a winery map which offers similar details. Now I can see exactly where those two bottles of Pinot Gris came from that my parents brought back for me on a recent trip.

Where are you blogging?

globeEver wonder who is food blogging in your area? Well, wonder no longer and check out this google-powered world map dotted with icons of food bloggers. If you like, you can add yourself and a link to your blog to the map.

So far, it seems like I’m the only one in Florida—I would be the small dog hovering over the Sarasota area. I know there are some other food bloggers on the west coast of Florida – why aren't you on the map?

The map is apparently a side project of Small Farms, a blog dedicated to, among other things, small farms in the San Francisco area.
