These chefs steam up the kitchen

I have been just a little be partial towards Dave Lieberman ever since I heard he was from Philadelphia. That just happens to be the city where I live, so occasionally I indulge in a very mild fantasy in which I run into him in one of the bakeries down at the Italian Market or bump into him while ordering sandwiches at Di Bruno Bros. We get to talking food and he invites me to be a co-host on his show (I warned you it was tame). I've always found that it's way more fun to have a totally fantastical and unrequited fascination with who you might possibly, however remote the chance, actually get to meet someday.

My path has yet to cross Dave's, but last night I voted for him in the Glad's Steamiest Chef Contest. I realize that this is sort of cheesy but somehow I just couldn't resist. If you have any sort of preferential feelings towards any of the five attractive chefs you see above, you might want to take yourself over to Glad and place a vote. The winning chef gets $30,000 to give to his favorite charity and one lucky voter will win a dinner cooked by their chef.

"Dave Does" a new web series

Is anyone a fan of Dave Lieberman? The Food Network is counting on what they believe is his appeal with younger audiences to make his newest ventures, Dave Does, a success. Dave Does is a web-based series that is launching on the Food Network's website in August. This is the second internet-only show for Lieberman, who starred in a series titled Eat This a few months ago. Unlike Dave Does, the previous show only ran for a few episodes, though Food Network reps say it was very popular. The new show will deal with the latest food trends, gadgets and "insider" restaurant locations in cities including Boston, Philadelphia, New York and Portland in each of its thirteen, 5-minute episodes.

Lieberman is entertaining in small doses, so the "webisode" format works well for him. The unfortunate thin about the show is that it is not a cooking show. That makes this just another example of the Food Network moving further away from people who like to cook. How many shows can they have that feature "insider restaurant locations"?

Bottom Five Food Network Valentine Recipes

As much as I love the Food Network, sometimes they just don't quite hit right the mark. Holidays are guaranteed to turn out many interesting recipes, as all the chefs work on recipes designed to fit a particular theme. Recipes like Sarah Moulton's Chocolate Stuffed Heart Shaped French Toast and Michael Chiarello's Butternut Squash Ravioli with Sage Brown Butter and Bittersweet Chocolate are truly excellent recipes and fit the delicious, romantic standards of the holiday wonderfully. The recipes below, however, you might want to avoid serving on Valentine's Day, assuming that you want to keep your Valentine around until next year.
