"BlogEvents" news and stories

Eggstra, Eggstra

Now this is so much fun. The End of Month Egg on Toast Extravaganza blog event (have egg and bread nought else!) has reached another monthly conclusion. Jeanne has posted the over-view of the latest themed event. This time it was Tabloid Headlines.

Some people have been so inventive and clever. You might have seen the eggcellent newspaper posted on Becks and Posh but the other entries are equally as funny (except perhaps my humble effort hilariously described as 'three under-aged chicks'). There are stories of 'eggsploits with freshly laid eggs' how jilted Bacon tells French Toast to "Get stuffed!" and eggsposures of bizarre geriatric egg-laying.

All fun stuff. Cluck on over to page three Cooksister for full eggscruciating details.

EoMEoTE : Tabloid Headlines Edition

The blogging fun that is End of Month Egg on Toast Extravaganza is about to take place. This month it is all about food - food using eggs and some form of bread obviously - related to a headline. Yep, it is the Headline Edition of EoMEoTE.

Click over to the cooksister for full details but basically it is all about creating something creative using the last remaining staples in your kitchen at the end of the month, before pay-day kicks in to allow a restock. It can be sweet, savoury, simple, complex, breakfast, dinner - whatever you like. The twist is that EoMEoTE is an ovo-literary event. In the past, we've had poetry, fan fiction and song lyrics as themes (for the full list, see the end of this post) - something for everyone, really! This month the theme is... tabloid headlines - think National Enquirer, think The Sun or The Mirror and you'll get the picture.

The Reluctant Housewife's Summer Salads

What can a man do when a Reluctant Housewife sends you a smile? Little, but succumb to her wishes. In this case, before you get too excited, it is a blog event. The lovely Gabriella, via My Life as A Reluctant Housewife, is asking for contributions to Summer Salads.

What can we do here people? Complicated or simple? Should we include a little fish perhaps, a slither of chicken or Italian meats? Sticky smothering pink sauces or delicate olive oil based dressings? Radishes are plentiful.. choices, choices, choices.

Head over to Gabriella's site and let her know your thoughts by August 21st.

Blog Events for July

Despite the general summer slow down across the internet here are four blog-events to follow or to participate in.

  • Mixology Monday V takes place at Jiggle the Handle on July 17th. The subject is Lemon - plenty of fun to be had discovering or inventing a cocktail!
  • Sugar High Friday storms through to the 21st edition and a theme of "Ice Ice Baby" (chilled and frozen desserts).
  • The 12th edition of Blog Party - Passport Party!  traveling...virtually, of course. Think about the places you've been, countries you've visited. Or, a country you're hoping to get to. Create at least one appetizer and drink inspired by your favorite place, or places.
  • Everyone's favourite food porn competition, Does My Blog Look Good In This, already has several wonderful entries. Send your picture or just view the entries at Grab Your Fork.

The image is my entry for DMBLGIT... what do you think?

Wine Blogging Wednesday 23

With Wine Blogging Wednesday #22 wrapped up by Tim at Wine Cast - who would have thought there were so many red wines still with less than 12.5% alcohol - our thoughts turn to the next theme.

Hosted by Vivi's Wine Journal the theme for round 23 is  Bar-B-Que Wines. What wines do you serve with your burnt sausages, undercooked chicken and wilted salad? OK so I am dissing your culinary endevours, I am sure your BBQs offer an array of delicious specialities cooked to perfection. BUt wine is the thing here. Do you go for a general perpose white, something relativly inocculous or do you go for some full-bodied, mighty red bursting with flavour to match the smoky edge to those hulking slabs of beef?

Whatever your selection would be, Viuv's Wine Journal would like to hear from you by the 5th July.
