Cicadas: packed full of protein (Slashfood)
May 18th 2006 10:19PM I wonder what the best way to kill them is. Or if you should eat the wings. So many unanswered questions in that recipe...

You can't be a foodie and not like... (Slashfood)
Mar 26th 2006 10:28PM I once read that the term "foodie" was an attempt to avoid the arrogant snobbism of words like gourmand and epicure.

Trader Joe's coming to Madison, WI (Slashfood)
Feb 26th 2006 10:25AM How exciting, my home finally makes slashfood news. It'll be nice to be able to shop at a Trader Joe's. I used to go to one sometimes when I was in California for school.

Food Suggestor (Slashfood)
Oct 1st 2005 2:50PM Cool idea though. It would be neat if someone made a page where you could check off ingredients you had or wanted to use, and then it would suggest several recipes.

Sushi By Dummies - What's Up? Wasabi! (Slashfood)
Sep 30th 2005 4:42PM When I was in Japan, people I talked to who had had sushi in America thought it was really weird and surprising that the sushi came with wasabi hidden under the fish. I was taught you *are* supposed to mix the wasabi and soy sauce together. I guess it makes sense that you wouldn't in America, since the (chef's idea of the) perfect amount is already there, but I'd rather have the choice of putting as much as I'd like.

Sushi For/By Dummies - What Are They Shouting? (Slashfood)
Aug 31st 2005 4:39PM And if you're really really smart, you'll know it's actually "irasshaimase" not "ira shai masse", and that it literally means "Come in" or "Welcome" not "May I help you?" Also, "Omakase" is a little weird, perhaps. It means "Leave it to me". I suspect the poster may have meant "Omatase" which means "I've kept you waiting". But there's no context given for that one, and I suppose either could be said in a sushi place.
