  • In Defense of Rachael Ray (Slashfood)

Dec 25th 2009 11:53AM Food Network Mission Statement: Chase the LCD for maximum audience size. Unfortunately, they've gone all-in in this quest without realizing that they can balance LCD cooking shows (30 minute meals, Sandra Lee stuff) with good cooking shows that educate on food and technique (Jacques Pepin).

As for why RR is so unpopular yet popular? Everything that can be said has been said in the comments above. I don't hate her, now I just ignore her. Sandra Lee, on the other hand, is another story.

  • The Year in Food TV: Masters, Poseurs and Airborne Meat (Slashfood)

Dec 15th 2009 4:17PM Never saw her new show since I cannot stand Sandra Lee.

  • SpaghettiOs to Cut Salt (Slashfood)

Dec 15th 2009 4:15PM Should probably cut the amount of sugar in it too.

  • BrewDog's Nanny State - Beer of the Week (Slashfood)

Nov 24th 2009 2:25PM I've had the Paradox many times and love it! You can order it from K&L wines here in the SF bay area.

  • In Defense of Guy Fieri (Slashfood)

Nov 20th 2009 5:41PM He used to bug me too. But after seeing that Chefography (which, really doesn't apply to him so they should change the name to "Food Network Starology") I came to realize he's just a guy who loves food and loves talking to people. He relishes the food and interactions on DD&D. So much better than watching Flay's dicketry as mubled his way across America trying to do essentially the same thing.

I also like Bourdain, a lot. But lately he's seems to have gone off the rails. He called Alice Waters "Pol Pot in a mumu". Really? Alice Waters is like the Cambodian homicidal dictator? Really?

  • Water, Water Everywhere, But Not a Drop to Brew (Slashfood)

Nov 11th 2009 5:27PM Interesting post. I brew a French Press every morning and was using tap until I saw the solid mineral buildup in tea kettle I use to heat up the water. Now I'm using standard bottled water (which had already). Haven't noticed a flavor change though.

  • 'The Next Iron Chef' - Too Much Is Never Enough (Slashfood)

Oct 13th 2009 11:31AM The American version is just another cooking competition from Food Network albeit with fancier sets. To pull off the whole "chairman" bit you need to have the camp that the Japanese original did. Not to mention that Alton Brown has lost way too much weight and needs to just accept his hair is going away.

  • Gourmet Magazine to Close (Slashfood)

Oct 6th 2009 6:42PM Yeah, I'm with rainy Smith above, why would you keep BA and can Gourmet? I dig Gourmet. Bon Appetite I could take or leave.

I don't have historical perspective as Texas Hill Country Tom does though (nor do I have the delicious Hill Country BBQ!). I only know the post-Ruth era. How was it different?

  • Grilled Sweet Summer Corn (Slashfood)

Jul 31st 2009 7:36PM Grill the corn, let it cool a littl, slather with crema fresca, dust with chile powder, sprinkle with cotija cheese and cilantro. Finish with a squeeze of lime. It is perfect.

  • Fancy Food Show Favorites - Day One (Slashfood)

Jun 30th 2009 2:09PM I have Black Garlic at home. Made a scallop recipe with it from www.steamykitchen.com

    Tasty but odd looking.
