For Love of Toasted Pine Nuts (Slashfood)
Feb 20th 2009 9:25AM slice a bunch of brussels sprouts thin (I use the slicer on my food processor), put them in a hot pan with olive oil until caramelized to your liking, toss in a generous handful of toasted pine nuts, and then toss with spaghetti or fettucini and top with a hard cheese (pecorino romano or the like)

Jan 21st 2009 11:53AM an excellent addition to the recipe, especially if you hate the taste of nyquil, is a jigger or two of whisky.

When Recipes Fail (Slashfood)
Jan 20th 2009 3:41PM haha--I made my old standard chocolate cake for a birthday recently, and used Ibarra chocolate to make the ganache... which completely failed to firm up, to my surprise and confusion. I figure maybe the extra sugar and canela in the chocolate caused it to distemper?

Inexpensive Holiday Sparklers - Wine of the Week (Slashfood)
Dec 22nd 2008 2:39PM if, by some magic, you are able to find it, the bubbly from the Massachusetts (yes, Massachusetts!) winery Westport Rivers is absolutely spectacular. It's in the low $20s usually, so not exactly budget, but still pretty darn good for top-shelf bubbly. the Brut Cuvee RJR is their flagship bottle, but the blanc de blancs is also bowl-you-over good.

Slashfood Ate (8): Ways to prepare Thanksgiving turkey (Slashfood)
Nov 19th 2008 9:46AM I'd recommend the "Ultimate Turkey" recipe from Bon Appetit Nov. 2006--compound butter under the skin and in the cavity. Or, if you're able, get a heritage breed turkey (if you're in Philly, D'Angelo Brothers on 9th has spectacular prices for FRESH Bourbon Reds, and it's great to support local merchants and local farmers), I'd recommend salt, pepper, and butter.

Who's making dinner in your house tonight? (Slashfood)
Nov 7th 2008 11:00AM hah--I'm a guy, and I do all the cooking and about 95% of the meal planning in our household. Aside from the tea cabinet, the kitchen and all its tools are completely mine.
