Texas Wines - Wine of the Week (Slashfood)
May 12th 2010 12:40PM Next time you're out in the Fredericksburg/Stonewall area, give Woodrose a try. It's not far from Torre di Pietra and a few others in Stonewall. Some truly gorgeous wines (including a very special white port-style wine), and a beautiful view on their multi-level wood deck surrounded by enormous trees.

Raising the Bar: Tequila Por Mi Amante (Slashfood)
Jun 27th 2008 10:27AM Maybe your problem is that you're making vodka infusions instead of pulling in a complementary flavor into an *already flavored* spirit. If we never tried to "compromise the integrity" of beverages we would never have hot chocolate, spiced cider, earl grey, or any sort of variety in beer. One of the reasons that tequila por mi amante works is that the natural flavoring of tequila marries so well with strawberry. If you did the same with vodka, you'd have strawberry flavored....alcohol. There's no marriage of flavors there--the strawberry just kind of takes over. Of COURSE that's boring. :p

Apr 21st 2008 3:33PM rimming sugar. we had a friend from England visit and when he saw that he fell on the floor laughing hysterically. I'd never really thought of its more crude connotations but now I can't see the product without laughing.

Baby, come back to mead (Slashfood)
Feb 28th 2008 12:12PM yeah, I was also going WTF at your comment about foul smells. Brewing beer has some of the most glorious smells in the world. Think baking bread x 10.

Moby's Pan Bagna (Slashfood)
Jan 23rd 2008 4:50PM My vegetarian college roommate used to make something really similar. She used fresh red bell pepper, no arugula, and she added a few capers to the mix. and since we didn't have a food processor, she just chopped everything up really fine. She'd also hollow out the bread leaving only 2 shells, dice the bread cubes, and mix those in as well. I used to buy salami to add to the sandwich (since I needed protein) and ohhhh it was so tasty.
