Eat Your Greens - Kale Chips (Slashfood)
Feb 17th 2010 9:31AM From the title, I thought this post would be a recipe for kale chips. I guess I was thinking of the old Slashfood, which had recipes and informative posts about food, not just glorified press releases.
Anyway, kale chips are easy to make. Cut kale into bite-sized pieces, toss it with oil, sprinkle it with salt, and spread it in a single layer on a cookie sheet. Bake for about 10 minutes. These kale chips taste surprisingly like popcorn, though the texture is more like a crumbly potato chip. They're best eaten hot, as they get soggy when stored. -
Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Urbock - Beer of the Week (Slashfood)
Oct 6th 2009 9:24AM I had this at a friend's beer-tasting party. As I love all things smoky (including smoked BBQ and the peatiest Scotches), I enjoyed it. But it's still a novelty beer; I doubt I'd sit down to drink an entire glass of it.

McDonald's Sued Over Gold Earring in Sandwich (Slashfood)
Sep 29th 2009 9:41AM I am truly amazed at how stupid the people on this site are. There used to be occasional intelligent comments here, but ever since Slashfood became part of AOL it's been all downhill.
The man went into McDonald's and was served a meal that could have killed him. If that isn't worthy of a lawsuit, what is? Why do you people insist on defending large corporations that serve dangerous food? -

Florida Honey Laws Prohibit 'Fakes' (Slashfood)
Jul 28th 2009 10:50AM I love freedom, RichF! I think that we don't have enough freedom in this, the land of the free! I demand that the government allow corporations the freedom to sell anything they want and label it as honey. It can be 100% corn syrup, or packed with illegal chemicals, but I don't care. I want to buy Chinese-made, possibly toxic, vaguely honey-flavored goo! That's the American way!

Florida Honey Laws Prohibit 'Fakes' (Slashfood)
Jul 28th 2009 10:00AM RichF: I agree. I also think that the government should legalize the sale of meat infested with rat feces. If customers don't want to eat rat feces, they shouldn't buy that meat. Of course, they'll have to guess whether their meat is contaminated, because it won't be labeled. (Just like this fake honey isn't labeled now.) But I'm sure they'll figure it out eventually. Hooray for freedom!

Lender's Bagels Offers Lower Carb Options, If You Don't Mind HFCS (Slashfood)
Apr 7th 2009 9:18AM Why does Lender's include sweeteners in their bagels to begin with? Even their onion bagels have HFCS!

King Corn Filmmaker Resolves to Give up Meat From Factory Farms (Slashfood)
Jan 8th 2009 9:25AM I'm surprised that an anti-agribusiness filmmaker hadn't already given up factory-farmed meat.

BeerAdvocate's Consumer Opinion Poll - Let The Controversy Continue (Slashfood)
Dec 23rd 2008 9:29AM I've noticed that Beer Advocate is biased towards certain styles of beer. Its readers like beer that's very high in alcohol and either very sweet or very hoppy. That's what gets the high ratings. Of the top 25, 5 are below 7%, and 5 are below 10%! I'm not sure how much of that is caused by genuine preference for extreme beer, and how much is just snobbery.
Stone makes the kind of beer that Beer Advocate readers like. That doesn't make them the best brewery in the world; it makes them the best purveyor of super-strong beer that 99% of consumers wouldn't enjoy. -
America's Test Kitchen's Method for Roasted Broccoli (Slashfood)
Dec 15th 2008 10:20AM This is my favorite way to eat broccoli. It's the only Cooks Illustrated recipe that I actually make.
