  • 'Best Food Ever' Premieres on TLC (Slashfood)

May 5th 2010 9:53PM A top 10 list isn't complete without Katz Deli in NYC, home of the best, bar none, pastrami sandwich, which they cure themselves. It's also the same shop where Harry met Sally.

  • Prom Night 2009: Jim Crow Style (Blackvoices Main)

May 29th 2009 12:17PM When I graduated from a FL high school in 1978, we had both a black band and a white band to satisfy everyone's musical tastes. Later on, I lived in Camden County, Georgia when it had one high school yet two proms. I found it both archaic and repulsive that both the parents and
the school supported that way of thinking. Also at that time, the main employer of the area, Gilman Paper Co., had a company swimming pool to which they denied black employees and their families. And this was in the 1980s. So I’m not shocked that this is still happening in such a backwards state as Georgia. Living amidst and witnessing such a narrow-minded culture gave me a
better appreciation for the NAACP and the American Negro College Fund. The black population had no one to advocate for them against such a tidal wave of prejudice thinking. Let’s face it – how many administrators of a school such as Camden County High would help a black student get into college, let alone steer them toward
scholarships that white students applied for? You would think by now such organizations as the NAACP and The American Negro College Fund would be obsolete. But the ignorant red necks of the world keep them relevant. Oh, and by the way, I am white.
