  Mar 22nd 2011 5:01PM At the Qdoba near my office, I ordered the street tacos the first day I heard about them, and they were served with the red onion and cilantro. (I don't recall asking for anything else.) I thought they were fine -- just the right amount of food for lunch, and I liked the beans, although they were a bit sweet to my taste. • Chuck E. Cheese's Launching New Pizza (Slashfood)

  Feb 28th 2011 2:57PM Ah, the memories ... taking my kids to Chuck E. Cheese and eating that awful pizza while they played games to "win" tickets to redeem for cheap toys. The only upside was that you could sit in a booth and keep an eye on the kids while drinking cheap wine in the middle of the day (at least in California).
  
  But soon the pizzas will have real mozzarella! I don't even want to know what I was eating back then ...

• Real New Yorkers Don't Toast Bagels (Slashfood)

  Feb 16th 2011 3:00PM Here in northern New Jersey we have very good bagels, and in my town, one place in particular sells the greatest volume and therefore has the freshest bagels. Toasting one of those is completely unnecessary. But if you're lucky, there will be leftovers, and even a great once-fresh bagel benefits from toasting after it's a few hours old. With good cream cheese, it will still be delicious.

  Sep 29th 2010 3:20PM My local Whole Foods has a breakfast bar that has been selling breakfast pizza for at least a year, and it's very good -- and because it's lighter than their other offerings (everything is sold by the pound), it's surprisingly affordable.

  May 12th 2010 9:31AM Yes, Frank, I know that waiters believe women, especially in groups, are bad tippers. And I've been embarrassed by friends, men and women, who were cheap tippers.
  
  But why tar everyone with the same brush? I would like to become a regular at some restaurants in town as a single diner, but I usually get such miserable treatment that I never go back.

  May 11th 2010 3:10PM It would be great if surveys like this made wait staff more friendly to women dining alone or women in groups (since women are more likely to be Democrats than men are), but I'm not hopeful ... sigh. I enjoy dining alone, but the woeful service I get has made me reluctant to do so. And I tip 20 percent and don't require much attention!
