Branching out with mini greek meatballs (Slashfood)
Apr 3rd 2008 1:31PM I think using a rack to cook these is a great idea. I had the same problem with too much liquid oozing out, although when I made them smaller, it cooked off a lot better. They were definitely tasty though. Thanks for mentioning my meatballs!

Great Food Fast, Cookbook of the Day (Slashfood)
Feb 18th 2008 1:11PM Just yesterday I flipped through this cookbook at someone's house and went straight to the computer and ordered it at Amazon.com. I've never been much of a Martha fan, but everything in the book looked absolutely great!

The World's Healthiest Foods, Cookbook of the Day (Slashfood)
Feb 24th 2007 9:57AM Hi Nic,
This is a book I'll definitely be looking for, since I love that site. I agree, it's refreshing to have a focus on what you should eat instead of what to avoid. I see a lot of recipes on the site that look good, but what takes me there is the other informatin about the foods. -
Utah is fry sauce country (Slashfood)
Jan 20th 2007 2:14PM Imagine my surprise when I'm reading Slashfood and see the word "Utah" and "fry sauce" pop out at me. Indeed, it's quite a thing around here. Among my family and friends, the fry sauce from Hire's Hamburgers is considered to be the best. Dill pickle juice is our favored addition, although a number of places add just a smidgen of barbecue sauce.
I take my nieces and nephews to Hires whenever they visit Salt Lake, and we always get extra fry sauce, so it's a kid pleaser too.
Many Utah burger joints also put a little of some similar type of "sauce" on their hamburgers. This week is the Sundance Film Festival here, so you have to wonder if there are any movie stars at Hires Hamburgers discovering the great fry sauce. -
All-in-one coffee makers brew up good results (Slashfood)
Nov 20th 2006 9:16AM I have the Cuisinart Grind and Brew and I love it. It's true that you have to wash out the grinder basket daily though, otherwise it gets quite oily from the coffee beans. I've only had one problem and that was my fault, when I neglected to fully shut the filter-basket and it came open. I put the water and coffee beans in at night, program the time, and the sound of the grinding wakes me up. Heavenly.

Slashfood Ate (8): Thanksgiving side dish ideas (Slashfood)
Nov 14th 2006 4:05PM Thanks for mentioning my roasted butternut squash. It was really totally delicious. This is something I'm sure I will make over and over.
The rest of these things all look good too. I'm really getting in the mood for Thanksgiving. -
The Bon Appetit Cookbook, Cookbook of the Day (Slashfood)
Sep 25th 2006 8:55AM Hi Nicole,
I just bought this book. I haven't had much time to look through it yet, but I do think it looks good. I love your cookbook of the day! (Of course I'm a major cookbook fiend, it's something of an addiction.) -
Macaroni & Cheese: 52 Recipes from Simple to Sublime, Cookbook of the Day (Slashfood)
Aug 12th 2006 10:11AM Ahh Nicole, you're really getting to me now. Mac and cheese is one of my very favorite comfort foods. (Thank goodness for Dreamfield's low carb pasta, which actually tastes just like regular pasta and makes the mac and cheese great for my diet!)

Make veggies more nutritious... with fats (Slashfood)
Aug 9th 2006 12:12PM I love hearing this. It's a slightly different theory, but one of the things I've absolutely LOVED about the South Beach Diet is that if you're going to cheat a bit and eat something not recommended (like potatoes for example) it actually makes the food lower on the glycemic index if you eat it with a bit of fat (like a small amount of butter and sour cream!) Of course, you can't do that every day or you're not on the diet any more, but I use it to justify having butter on my popcorn at the movies, one thing I've quite consistently cheated on!!
