  • Doc Talk: Do Documentaries Still Have Educational Value? (Moviefone Blog)

Jan 6th 2011 11:07AM Perhaps part of the dividing line is the difference between whittling something down for an entertaining and brief amount of time, and a series that has the time to flesh out research?

Perhaps, perhaps not, but I do know that I still appreciate that my teacher showed us Ken Burns' 'The Civil War.' It brought me bucketloads more understanding of the war than history books ever did.

And really, considering the problems with many school books these days, are documentaries any worse?

  • Shelf Life: The Apartment (Moviefone Blog)

Jan 5th 2011 9:12AM It has flaws, but having taken years to finally see The Apartment, I fell in love with it immediately.

I think it's a great balance to the frivolous films you mentioned, and I want to revisit precisely for its cynicism.

  • What's the Most Popular Movie Title in History? (Moviefone Blog)

Jan 3rd 2011 11:24AM Though I can't speak for the commenters, if you search for terms like "Love" yourself on IMDb, you will see that we are referring to full titles.

  • Criterion Corner #3: The Trouble With Women (Moviefone Blog)

Dec 29th 2010 8:14PM Instead of ulterior motives, what about a simple box set or series of great female filmmakers mainstream audiences aren't very familiar with, like the Essential Art House collection?

  • 'How Do You Know' Review: Trust Me, You Don't Want To Know (Moviefone Blog)

Dec 17th 2010 12:34AM I'm bummed.. But mainly because I still adore Witherspoon and Rudd in Overnight Delivery. ...even if they wish they never made it.

  • 'Thor' Early Buzz: Well, Racists Hate It (Moviefone Blog)

Dec 17th 2010 12:18AM I disagree. There's a difference between an actor of another race attempting to BE a different race -- like John Wayne playing Genghis, black face, etc -- and a fictional character being reimagined so that someone of a different race can play them.

  • 'Arkham City' Trailer Teases Potential 'Dark Knight Rises' Villain Hugo Strange (Moviefone Blog)

Dec 14th 2010 12:04AM He's partially there and does a solid job morphing (though I'd like to see it in more than just getting buff or starving himself), but he's not really one of the charismatic superstars of Hollywood, a la Pitt or Clooney. Personally, I want to see that star power with the talents of Gary Oldman.

  • Cinematical Movie Club: Sleeping Beauty (Moviefone Blog)

Nov 30th 2010 11:59AM Aurora is the top-billed, the face and focus of the film and merchandise, the supposed heroine. It's faulty, but that's how it's always been framed.

If the fairies are contenders, I'd say Phillip could be argued for the top spot as well, as he's shown as a child, as the suitor, the twist that leads dad to drink, and the ultimate hero.

  • Scenes We Love: 'Kiss Kiss Bang Bang' (Moviefone Blog)

Nov 3rd 2010 12:29PM I love -- and dearly miss -- the RDJ before Iron Man. Before it was like he was a solitary man easily amused in a very weird and quirky sort of way. Now it's more tongue-in-cheek bravado that seems more amused by his awesomeness. Perhaps not his fault, but how the films make his actions seem different.

  • Cinematical Movie Club: The Host (Moviefone Blog)

Nov 3rd 2010 12:25PM She also worked as a great hint that the film will delve into the greatness and failure inherent in any one person. She's not a crappy archer. In fact, she's awesome. She just can't do it in the right amount of time.
