Here's a pretty irresistible Earth Day offer from Starbucks: Bring in a reusable travel mug, get a free brewed coffee.

Last year the company ran the same offer and claims to have saved a million paper cups. Which is no small change.

And just in case you're wondering, you can get a 10-cent discount on your coffee every day at Starbucks when you bring in your own mug.

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Tax Day Food Deals

Filed under: Chain Stores / Restaurants, Deals / Free Food

The only thing better than ice cream is free ice cream. On Tuesday, April 12th, Ben & Jerry's scoop shops are offering free cones from noon to 8 p.m.

Why the sudden generosity? It's the company's 33rd birthday, and it's also an opportunity for them to showcase their newest flavors, from the Jimmy-Fallon-inspired Late Night Snack (vanilla with caramel and fudge-covered potato chips) to Clusterfluff (peanut butter ice cream with caramel clusters and marshmallow swirls). If you want to savor the anticipation, you can browse the whole flavor list.

Check for nearby shops on the website's scoop shop locator before you head out. Just be prepared: There will be lines. And yes, it will be worth it.

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Celebrate National Pi(e) Day

Filed under: Chain Stores / Restaurants, Deals / Free Food

March 14 is National Pi Day, a holiday officially recognized by the U.S. government since 2009. The Greek letter "pi" is the symbol for the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter (You might remember it as the never-ending series of numbers you learned in school that start with 3.14....). To celebrate, many restaurants and stores are rolling out specials on pie.

Here are the ones we've rounded up:

Whole Foods Markets' Midwestern stores are participating in a promotion by selling an entire fresh-baked apple, blueberry and cherry pie for $3.14. Each store is offering its own take on the promotion, in addition to the $3.14 pies. At the Milwaukee store, for example, Whole Foods Market will also retail two slices of pizza pie for the sum of $3.14.
Continue reading Celebrate National Pi(e) Day

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Starbucks New Coffees and A Birthday Gift for Customers

Filed under: Chain Stores / Restaurants, Deals / Free Food

Going global for Starbucks means it's debuting its revamped Siren logo, in four stores: the Solana store in Beijing, Avenue de l'Opéra in Paris, Brompton Road in London, and Times Square in New York City (plus a special launch in Seattle).

But enough of the Siren. What about the coffee? See the new brews and Starbucks giveaway after the jump.
Continue reading Starbucks New Coffees and A Birthday Gift for Customers

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Chick-fil-A's 'FryDay' Waffle Fries Giveaway

Filed under: Fast Food, Deals / Free Food

Heinz is rolling out a new ketchup container to replace their ubiquitous little packets, and Chick-fil-A is celebrating the new "Dip & Squeeze" ketchup by offering free waffle fries to customers tomorrow from 2-4 p.m. During the two-hour window, it's "Free FryDay:" All you have to do is ask for a Heinz Dip & Squeeze ketchup at the counter and they'll hand over a medium waffle fries to go with it.

But while the free fries are nice, we're way more excited about this ketchup innovation: We can't believe it's taken a ketchup company so long to make a ketchup container that you can dip your fries into. It may be a small luxury, but we'll take it.
In what seems like a cruel trick intended to lure a certain breed of romantically inept male to relationship doom, Hooters is touting itself as the perfect Valentine's Day destination. The tagline for the overly buxom restaurant chain's V-Day promotion? "Forget the ring and bring her in for wings."

Aww...just what every lucky lady wants to hear on the most romantic day of the year. Who needs a Hallmark card, chocolate and flowers when you can give her a plate of 20 wings for the price of 10 and a side of...well, you know what.
Continue reading Hooters Valentine: A Wing, Not a Ring

Permalink | Email this | Comments

The Super Bowl Means Restaurant Deals

Filed under: Chain Stores / Restaurants, Deals / Free Food

Whether you're rooting for the Steelers or Green Bay (or just the commercials), it's likely you'll tune into the Super Bowl this Sunday. (More than 106 million Americans watched the game last year.) Restaurant owners know the big game equals big business, so you can find all sorts of deals this weekend in honor of Sunday's big showdown.

Hosting a game-day party? You might want to consider serving pizza, since Papa John's, the "official pizza" partner for Super Bowl XLV, is conducting a sweepstakes for anyone who places an online order between 10am and 9:59 pm EST. As reported in Nation's Restaurant News, the chain is giving away $45 gift cards every 45 seconds, and offering $10 large pizzas all day. In addition, registering for "Papa Points" will win you a free large pizza if the game goes into overtime. Pizza Hut, too, is introducing a party option with its "Big Dipper" pizza, $12 for 24 strips of pizza and 4 cups of tomato sauce for dipping.
Continue reading The Super Bowl Means Restaurant Deals

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Papa John's Deal: Super Bowl Overtime Means Free Pizza

Filed under: Chain Stores / Restaurants, Deals / Free Food

Papa John's has announced what may be the biggest free giveaway ever: free pizzas to everyone in America if this year's Super Bowl goes into overtime.

Sounds impressive and sort of mind-boggling, right? We had visions of frenzied Papa John's employees across the country trying to juggle a deluge of calls the second the extra quarter began, the smell of singed mozzarella in the air, and the urgent, tragic cry: "We're out of pepperoni, man!"

Well, not quite. This being an offer from a nationwide chain, the battle plan is a little more orderly than that. True, everyone in America (age 13 and up) is eligible for the offer, but you have to register online at www.papajohns.com and become part of the chain's Papa Points program by 11:59 p.m. on February 5, the day before the game. Then, on February 7, enrollees will receive 25 Papa Points, which is the amount needed to order a free large, three-topping pizza, if Super Bowl XLV goes into overtime.

And that's a big "if" since, as loyal fans know, no Super Bowl in history has ever gone into OT.

Have you broken your New Year's resolution yet? Dove wants to know what you've been promising yourself. And they're asking you to Tweet back to win a coupon for a free Silky Smooth Chocolate Singles Bar. (Doesn't that sound like a downtown joint where chocolate lovers hook up?) Twitter members can win one of the 2,011 prizes from Dove by sending a reply to the @Dove_Chocolate "Giveaway" Tweet with your New Year's resolution and include the hashtag "#DOVE2011Promises." The giveaway runs through January 31.

We're wondering if Dove will still give you a chocolate bar if you say your resolution is to give up chocolate.

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Fast Food Meal Deals

Filed under: Chain Stores / Restaurants, Deals / Free Food

Post-holiday deals are everywhere in the fast-food world, and USA Today rounded up the best of them: two-for-ones, giveaways, and special deals of the day. Seems January is one of the slowest months for the chains, and they're giving deep, deep discounts to lure you back in.
After the jump, a few of the specials you may want to take advantage of this month.
Continue reading Fast Food Meal Deals

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Outback's New Steak and Seafood Deal

Filed under: Chain Stores / Restaurants, Deals / Free Food

OK, so maybe you don't have $5,000 to eat the the Vegas burger-and-booze excess-a-thon that chef Hubert Keller is offering up (read today's post "A Burger and A Bottle for 5 Grand"). Outback Steakhouse has you covered. From January 12 to February 22, the steakhouse chain is offering a sirloin steak along with grilled scallops and shrimp (oh, and some mango salsa and veg), starting at $10.99, according to Nation's Restaurant News.

Look at it this way. Opt for Outback's Steak & Seafood Mixed Grill instead of the Fleurburger over at Mandalay Bay, and that gives you almost $4,985 more (let's not forget tax and tip) to blow at the craps table, should you be in Vegas. Or take in about 400 movies, should you be elsewhere in the country.

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Free Shipping Day - Kitchen and Food Goods

Filed under: Deals / Free Food

Are you ready for a "slice of joy?" Or how about a delicious Santa Bonus? No, these are not double entendres, although we're pretty tempted. They're rewards for buying gift cards from the Cheesecake Factory (a free slice of cheesecake) and a $5 or $10 bonus for the purchase of a $25 or $50 card from Hooters.

Nation's Restaurant News reports that although sales of cards are up, amounts people are dedicating to them are down, so we're all getting a little encouragment to pull out the greenbacks, courtesy of the higher end (Morton's steakhouses, $50 reward card for $300 in gift card purchases), and the not-so-high-end (Applebee's, a $10 bonus for $50 spent on gift cards; and IHOP, a $5 coupon with the purchase of a $25 gift card).

Hint: Think of it as two gifts. Slip your bonus card in someone's stocking.

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Black Friday Deals for Cooks' Gifts

Filed under: Holidays, Deals / Free Food

Set the alarm for 3 a.m.; grab wads of cash; charge. Yes, friends, it's almost Black Friday again, when, after the last gravy boat is washed, it's time to shop. And if you have cooks in the family, there are some great gift deals out there. Here are six that we'd love to have tucked into our holiday stockings.

Target has deeply discounted prices on a lot of terrific cookware, from a Paula Deen Signature 18-piece Porcelain Cookware Set (perfect as a starter set) to a J.A. Henckels 13-piece Professional Knife Set. But we're sweet on the West Bend Oblong Slow Cooker ($49.99), which goes from countertop to easy fridge storage, and it comes with a nifty Tote, so you can take your stews on the go.

Williams-Sonoma is cutting prices on glassware, and if you've broken a few Champagne flutes, now is the time to restock or gift them. Or pick up a Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker for half-price. But here's the deal for cooks who know from knives, the Shun Kaji 19-Piece Knife Block Set, that they say is "inspired by centuries-old samurai sword-making techniques, the blades' construction creates a supersharp cutting edge." And the price? Better bring the Visa card: Normally $4,350, the sale price is $2,999.95. But boy, will they slice and dice.
Continue reading Black Friday Deals for Cooks' Gifts

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Dunkin', Jack in the Box, and Bruegger's News of the Day

Filed under: Chain Stores / Restaurants, Deals / Free Food

From the return of the Jack in the Box Bonus Jack burger to a Foursquare deal from Dunkin' Donuts, here's a round-up of fast-food tidbits from today's Nation's Restaurant News:

C'mon back, Jack: The double cheeseburger with "special sauce" that Jack in the Box debuted in the 1970s is back on the menu. The Bonus Jack returns, alone and in a Jack in the Box $3.99 meal deal with fries and a drink.

Bruegger's Says "Tomato": Back for a limited time only is Bruegger's Bagel Bakery's lunch combo of a Four Cheese Panini and Fire Roasted Tomato Soup. They're also bringing back their Cinnamon Roll bagel for sweets lovers.

Dunkin's Foursquare Deal: Check in from a single Dunkin' Donuts location via Foursquare six times and get a free donut. The program has just been launched at Florida locations.

So Long, Charlie? After 29 of CB Holdings restaurants were closed (which include Charlie Brown's and Bugaboo Creek Steak House), CB has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. However, it's reported the remaining restaurants will stay in business.
Continue reading Dunkin', Jack in the Box, and Bruegger's News of the Day

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Starbucks Holiday Brews Are Back (With a Two-for-One Deal)

Filed under: Holidays, Coffee Shops, Deals / Free Food

Your eggnog jones is about to be satisfied. Tomorrow Starbucks is bringing back their holiday specials, including the Eggnog Latte. Gingerbread Men (and Women) can go for the Gingerbread Latte, and there are Caramel Brulée Latte and Peppermint White Chocolate Mocha, too. The Christmas Blend (regular and Espresso Roast) is also back, with its hints of pumpkin pie and gingerbread, and this year you can try it in an instant with the new VIA Ready Brew version. And from November 18 to 21, you can buy one of the holiday joes and get one free. For a chic kaffeeklatsch, sip your spicy brew from designer Jonathan Adler's new ceramic STARBUCKS (RED) To-Go Cup (above). As with all the STARBUCKS (RED) offerings, part of the proceeds from sales go to the Global Fund, which helps combat AIDS in Africa.

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Free Tacos at Jack In the Box Today

Filed under: Chain Stores / Restaurants, Deals / Free Food

It's giveaway time at Jack in the Box. Today, from 2 p.m. to midnight, the chain is offering two free tacos to every customer -- there is no coupon or purchase required, reports Nation's Restaurant News. Regularly two for 99 cents, the beef tacos have, according to the company, been improved, although says NRN, a spokesperson for the chain declined to name those improvements.

The latest Jack in the Box ad features the company mascot sprawled in a dentist's chair, hooked up to a line of laughing gas, and, in a loopy moment, deciding to do a no-strings taco giveaway. But wait, what is that guy doing at the dentist's anyway? He has no mouth (unless you count that red smiley line), not to mention teeth. So how does Jack eat his tacos?
Continue reading Free Tacos at Jack In the Box Today

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Free Coffee at Burger King on Fridays

Filed under: Deals / Free Food
