As food costs are expected to rise about four percent in the United States and Europe from last year, McDonald's plans to raise its prices slightly and gradually. In March, the company raised all menu items by one percent, reports Nation's Restaurant News, and plans to "keep taking small, additional menu price increases."
McDonald's emphasized that it would not raise prices beyond the food-away-from-home inflation rate because, explains Pete Bensen, McDonald's Corp. chief financial officer, it is bad for traffic.
In a somewhat ironic move given the price increases, McDonald's has recently launched an ad campaign in Nordic countries that recalls the McDonald's of yore. The ads advertise a 1955 original version of the famous burger that used to sell for 15 cents.
Watch the new ad after the jump.
Though the burger is not actually selling for 15 cents, the ads promote the "new" burger as a "tribute to the beginning."

It's still a terrific deal worth 5 times that. it's a known fact there are so many preservatives in it that you can put a McD burger under your desk and in a year it will be exactly the same. No microbe on earth will touch it. If you have a bad cold, flu etc. you can eat McD's for a couple of days and 9 out of 10 times the bug wil be gone. Try it...Al-

He thought no one would pay over a dollar. He continued to be successful until he retired decades later. I am willing to pay a fair price for something and very happy when it meets or exceeds my expectations. Not happy when it's cheap or corners were cut. Keep up the good work McDonalds and others during this uncertain time!

I doubt if millions of people will stop going there because they raise their prices a dime or a quarter. That's inflation, buddy. Besides, what's the alternative? Oh yeah. You could eat at home...

4-23-2011 @1:17PM Akuin said... I'm pretty certain that the republicans are well aware of inflation. They have the Tea Party breathing down their necks. The fact of the matter is these troubles didn't come with the new batch. As I recall someone blocked the budget from being passed until they got what they wanted and it sure as hell wasn't republicans. Deal with the sad fact that Democrats want us all the drown in debt. No one else remembers this, but the first spending bill that Bush signed. He signed it to keep it off Obama's back to make the transition run smoothly. I dunno of any other presidents that were as willing to take a hit for the opposing team's winner.
Politicians in general are losers, but lets remember Rome wasn't built in a day, until elections it was Democratic majority. blame the right team for the failures. I don't care about politics as usual. In the case of the budget the Democrats were the problem. It's time they stopped acting like children desperate to win, and started thinking about the people again.

4-22-2011 @10:03PM J said... I doubt McD's will miss my business, but when I can go to a Waffle House and get a decent meal for about the same price, I'll choose the WH any day. I think paying $3.29 for a bagel, egg, cheese & bacon and $3.99 for a filet of fish sandwich is a bit much.
The best deal at McD's is the $1 ice tea they have.
Then of course, if the price of gas hits $4 - $5, no one will be able to afford to eat out.

I am not a fast food eater, but I decide to go to McDonald's one day, I wanted only a filet o fish, OMG, that small sandwich was 4 bucks, no fries, no soda, are they insane? I saw the other prices, and believe me, I can go to Home Town buffet for 10 bucks and get all I can eat and yet some. McDonald's is way too over priced. Only the idiots who don't care about their hard earned money will pay those kind of prices. Besides their meat is not even 100% beef. it is nasty, and way too salty. I will NEVER EVER go to M\cDonald's AGAIN... Gross food!!

I can get a whole pizza at Little Caesars for $5.00 They are not the best tasting pizza, but you get a lot more for your money. The food at McDonald's doesn't even taste as good as it used to. Fast food is suppose to be he cheapest, but they have become so expensive a lot of people cannot afford to eat at those places anymore. When a fast food place has to charge $4.00 or $5.00 for just a burger, that's ridiculous. People really are better off eating at home.
