In what can only be described as a bizarre and unintentional trend in the chain restaurant industry, yet another child was accidentally served alcohol, this time at Chili's, reports ABC news. There have been similar incidents recently at both The Olive Garden, in which a two-year-old was served sangria, and Applebee's, in which a 15-month-old was served a margarita.
The 4-year-old child, Brooklynn Morris, was allegedly served a mudslide instead of a chocolate shake and had three to four sips before she announced that she didn't like it. Her mother tasted the drink and immediately recognized the alcohol. Brooklynn was brought to the hospital and diagnosed with alcohol-ingestion overdose.
The mother, Tyree Davis, remarked to CBS, "I don't want it to ever happen again ... to any child, because I know this just happened last week to someone, and I heard about it, and it's crazy that it just happened to us yesterday."
ABC reports that ERJ Dining, the owner of Chili's, claims that the girl was served fruit punch and it was the mother that was served the alcohol drink.

First off..."underage children" -- correct me if I am wrong, but aren't ALL children underage? Also, your comment as a whole just shows how incredibly stupid you are...to think that you shouldn't be allowed to bring a child into a restaurant that serves alcohol is completely ridiculous. You obviously don't have children and please keep it that way because someone like you shouldn't procreate!

Not a sub shop or cafe. Every single restaurant I've gone into serves alcohol. I can't think of a single exception.
I'm not yet 21. I like to go out to eat occasionally. I go to establishments where alcohol is served. Should I not be allowed to go into restaurants? George, your suggestion is absolutely preposterous.
4-21-2011 @1:10AM Courtney said... Its fine for kids to be in restaruants where alcohol is served such as Applebee's or Chili's. When my husband and I take our kids out to eat with us, we always make sure that we order tea or soda for ourselves and juice for the kids AND I taste my kids drinks before I give it to them. It does sound like in this case that the parents are out to make a buck on their kid.

Next thing we'll hear is that restaurants that serve alcoholic beverages are going to stop serving drinks of any kind to underage kids. It's just a good thing restaurants make so much money selling alcoholic drinks to patrons or pretty soon we wouldn't even be able to have a glass of wine with dinner. Thanks to all you bad apples putting your kids at risk in order to make a couple of bucks!

The employee confused the apple juice with (I don't remember the alcoholic beverage), because bioth had been transferred from their original containers to generic ones. All I could think was, "Why wasn't the alcohol left in it's original container? (Or the apple juice for that matter)" Only two explanations come to mind: either they were stored somewhere visible to customers and the management wanted the area to look...regimented; or some health inspector decided the original containers weren't adequetely resistant to foreign material "contaminating" them.

4-20-2011 @3:26PM Lynn said... You took the words right out of my mouth. I don't care how old the kid is, it would take more than a couple of sips to get to that point. Wonder what mom fed her before they got to the resturant. Sickening.
