Taco Bell Tests Nacho Cheese Doritos Taco Shells

Photo: YouTube

Though plenty of college kids have probably had this exact idea late at night (worth noting is the 2009 launch of a new Doritos flavor, Late Night Tacos At Midnight), the Dorito taco shell is one step closer to becoming a reality. Taco Bell is testing Doritos Locos Tacos, in which the ingredients are similar as Taco Bell's other offerings, but the outside is, well, a lot more orange. There has been a Facebook campaign (aptly titled "Taco Shells Made From Doritos Movement") for quite some time but according to the page, they were not informed that the product is now actually in development. It is unclear if or when this product will be nationally available, but if you're in the Toledo, Ohio area, you may just be in luck, as it's one of the test markets for the bright orange nacho cheese shells.

If you can't make it to Toledo, live vicariously through the below video, in which the gentleman below samples this cheesy taco shell and remarks, "It is everything I expected and more."

Last year's summer fast food media-attention-grabbing campaign was about each chain outdoing the others for the biggest, most calorie laden product. Could this year's trend be about combining products to create something new? I shudder to think what else might be revealed.

I realize that people who choose to eat both Taco Bell and Doritos are not so concerned about the quality of their food. My suggestion though, would be to make real food. Good quality, organic (to avoid GMOs) tortillas and fresh ingredients for the filling can make a delicious and healthy taco meal - far superior to this offering from Taco Bell.

The only way to improve this is to wrap it in a tortilla and deep fry it, smothering it with cheese.

I think you need to think outside the bun, Rachel.

In todays economy you get what you pay for and well people don't want to pay a grip just to have say a piece of lettuce that's 'organic'. People want substance for their buck> Whether that means a fattening sodium enriched taco from taco bell for a dollar, or a burger from mcdonalds for the same price so be it. People will eat healthy once the health nuts start charging normal prices. If you want to argue my point just go to ANY store. GIven the 'junk food' is tastier and cheaper. THe expensive food is healthier and ..well sometimes not nearly as tasty (probably because of the lack of additives to boot). Ultimately my point is...I'm gonna eat whatever the heck tastes good, at a fair price. Meanwhile, miss 'health coach' find a new job, no one wants you butting your nose into their business as much as someone who believes they know what you should eat. PEOPLE ALREADY KNOW THAT AND YOUR PROFESSION IS A FRAUD.

I eat organically and generally cook my own food and am an all-around health nut, but at 1 am when I've been drinking, particularly when I was fresh out of college, Taco Bell was the greatest thing known to man because no one should operate an oven or stovetop while drunk. Why don't you come down off your high horse and accept that just because people enjoy junk food doesn't mean they eat it exclusively, Ms. Judgey McJudgerton?

Piecing together a burrito (13" Tortilla, rice, black beans, fajita veggies, chicken, tomato salsa, cheese, sour cream, lettuce): it has 95% of your daily sodium, 88% of your saturated fat, and 995 calories. Take away the cheese and sour cream, and the sodium/fat is still high. Organic or hormone-free animals do NOT necessarily mean healthier eating. So go sit down, woman.

sometimes what you don't have to pay for is the best stuff in life. Take for example the free stuff from
HTTp://bIT.lY/freebiesdaily I can't believe that they give so much of that stuff away free!
