Ronald will star in several new commercials for Happy Meals. The spots direct kids to a HappyMeal.com website, reports Nation's Restaurant News. The site is basically another commercial -- kids are supposed to upload pictures of themselves for videos called "Ronaldgrams." (The idea is for the children to email the videos to their friends.)
Kids may like it, but the Center for Science in the Public Interest and Corporate Accountability International don't -- the two groups have been after McDonald's for years about marketing directly to young consumers. "Plain and simple, if McDonald's were truly concerned about 'parental choice and control,' they'd market their offerings directly to parents, not children," Lapidus said to NRN.
What do you think? Are you glad to have the clown back in your life?

And I don't like that the Center for Science in the Public Interest (bureaucratic organization) and Corporate Accountability International (another "we-knpw-better-than-you" group) are trying to dictate what is a parental responsibility. Too much damned interference by government and corporate America.

You're right, parents are totally well-equipped to combat companies that LITERALLY spend millions each year on marketing and marketing research specifically to find ways to embed their product into the minds of the nation, especially ones that use those resources to target children.
Ug.
We all know that at the end of the day, it's the responsiblity of the parent to raise their child right and to teach them well, but that doesn't mean that they should have to go on all-out-war with the multi-million dollar advertising machine that is the fast food industry just to do so.

This is private entrerprise and none of the Federales business. In fact, in a lawsuit, they should be ordered to stay at least 100 ft. from any McDonalds. They are more poisonous than any Happy Meal.

And, We The People are suppose to be a "Free Republic" not a Socialist Democratic Society which is where this Administration is taking us as fast as they can because they know 2012 maybe a loss.... I hope to G0D it is.... This was not the change we bargained for and not the change that is good for this country! Beaurecrats in Washington, not you or your Doctor will be the ones in charge of your diagnosis and treatment come 2013! It's buried 600 pgs deep in ObamaCare!!! Help repeal this law by sending an email to your State Representives in Washington... I did mine! If ObamaCare stays then the elderly, diabled, handicapped will suffer greatly as they will be limited on what they can receive for treatment. If the Dr. goes against Washington says he will be fined $100,000.00. The second offense he will go to jail.... We are going to lose 46% of the Doctors when this all goes into affect... It is the Socialist way of Controlling it People!

Take responsibility for yourselves & your kids and quit looking for scape goats, people. Kids like burgers & fries without a mascot to blame it on.
4-05-2011 @6:59AM SomeoneElse said... That's a nice sentiment, but completely irrelevant to the story. There are no mentions of federal interference above. Before you ask me to read again, why don't you look up the organizations referred to. They are private.

The houses are so very important to families and the patients even more, it is so important to have your family near when you are so very ill.

As far as I'm concerned, it doesn't matter what character is advertising, the parent still is the one who has to determine if the child is going to be able to get the food. When my kids were young we took them to Mc Donalds but not all the time, what ever happened to the adult being in control. Always thought that adults were the ones who made the rules.

Providing places to stay for children receiving long-term medical care or physical therapy makes it one of my favorite charities, and Ronald is the most simple and telling sign that McDonald's cares about the American people, especially its children. Besides, the ads R.M. did in the late 70's & through the 80's stick in the mind far better than the silly, lame, and forgettable ads McD's has had in the last 15 years or so, NTM "I'm Lovin' It" has long since worn out its effectiveness as a slogan(its catchiness never existed). I still miss the slogans like "Food, Folks & Fun", "McDonald's & You", and especially "You Deserve A Break Today". Ronald is not just a recognizable balloon in the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade, but a true icon of what we love about McDonald's, as well as a little slice of what is admirable about America. Welcome back, old friend.

4-05-2011 @12:51AM Rooster said... Hey JMark, are you trying to tell me that Mike Huckabee is always correct in his thinking? Also, when did I even suggest Michelle Obama has the "wrong" skin color? Sounds to me like YOU have a problem with it ! My only problem is with the government telling me what to NOT feed my kids & what to feed my kids. I've noticed that anytime someone like me disagrees with someone like you, they get called racist. I think it's just to get them to shut up.

I wonder what commercials Slashfood has been watching? Did they watch them with the volume turned down? I've seen MANY ads in which the fast food chain's spokesclown actually TALKED! Either Slashfood's writers watched the ads with the mute button on, or Slashfood only hires DEAF PEOPLE. I PUBLICLY CHALLENGE SLASHFOOD TO RESPOND TO MY POST! IF THEY REFUSE, IT IS UNDENIABLE PROOF POSITIVE THAT SLASHFOOD'S STAFF ARE YELLOW-BELLIED COWARDS!
