Burger King has a history of being inspired by the menu items of their long-time adversary McDonald's. In the '90s, BK revamped their old soggy French fries with a crispier recipe that suspiciously resembled the ones at the Golden Arches. It was also during that decade that BK blatantly ripped off McDonald's Big Mac with the introduction of the short-lived Big King -- a hamburger that also contained two all-beef patties, a special sauce-like Thousand Island dressing, lettuce, cheese, pickles, and onions on a sesame seed bun. Now, with the introduction of their new Chicken Tenders, it seems that BK is at it again -- this time looking to the McNugget for inspiration, and attempting to do more than just drop the "Mc." Here's how they rate:
The Claims: BK's new Chicken Tenders are "tender," "crispy," and contain "white meat." They come in servings of four (190 calories), eight (380 calories), or twenty (950 calories). If you do the math, you'll find that each piece is 47.5 calories, but that adds up when you dip it in any of the six sauces: Zesty, Honey Mustard, Ranch, Buffalo, Barbecue, or Sweet & Sour.
The Price:$1.00 for four; $1.99 for eight; $4.99 for 20. (Prices may vary at participating locations.)
The Verdict: C. Gone away are the crown-shaped chicken pieces of the past; at a glance, these new Chicken Tenders look just like McNuggets (albeit a tad smaller) -- they have the same colored batter and even come in peculiar shapes like the ones at Mickey D's. The batter is crispy and starchy, like the McNuggets', with little to no herbs or spices to be tasted other than salt and a little pepper. The inside texture is just like the McDonald's counterpart: white meat that is ground, pressed, processed, and formed into nuggets. The taste is also similar, but not exactly the same. If it was BK's intention to simulate their rivals' chicken offering, they've missed the mark; what they have is drier and leaner-tasting, as opposed to the slightly fattier and softer texture found at the Golden Arches. (When I'm in the mood to order processed fast food chicken nuggets, I already know what I'm getting into, and prefer the latter.)
Perhaps these new Chicken Tenders have a flat taste by themselves because they are merely vehicles for the six dipping sauces available. However, those are nothing to rave about either: The light orange Zesty sauce is generically tangy; the Honey Mustard tastes like no-frills honey mustard; the Ranch merely maintains its status quo; the Buffalo is slightly spicy, but still sort of flat; the Barbecue has that sweet, factory-engineered smoky flavor; and the Sweet & Sour tastes like the kind you might get at a generic Chinese take-out place. Each sauce inherently enhances the chicken a tad, but that isn't saying much when you don't have something exciting to begin with. If this was BK's attempt to best Chicken McNuggets, like they tried to do with French fries, I'd advise them to try again -- or just stick with their signature items and improve upon them, instead of trying to emulate their rivals' food.

pon or fr-ee-bi-es. Usually HTTp://bIT.ly/dailysample has that kind of offer posted on their site if one becomes available. I've gotten Arby's shakes for free from them and Wendy's fries - all kinds of good stuff. I'm gonna keep my eye out and check for the new nuggets. A dollar or 2 saved is a dollar or 2 saved!
3-29-2011 @8:47PM anni said... Gee........was there ever a question about them? Skin, skids, ground non-wanted chicken s&hit product leftovers,.......................yum, feed it to your kids with the sugar sauces available. My kids are 20 and could go to Mc without eating total crap.

3-29-2011 @9:02PM Digi said... These chicken nuggets ARE NOT NEW. They've been around for over 3 years easily by now. Apparently Slashfood is at such a ..low imaginative state they have to go to fast food places and pick random obscure menu items and claim they're new. Listen. FIRE every sucker who works for this Slashfood website immediately. NONE of them do their jobs and just use it to exploit the companies coffers so they can get free lunches. Secondly, hire people with ACTUAL food EXPERIENCE. Not a bunch of dumb idiots and bimbos who know the mcdonalds menu by heart. DO THAT, and people might actually give this website a little credit for real entertaining journalism.

3-30-2011 @12:57AM Digi said... @d just because a tool like yourself hasn't seen them doesn't mean they didn't exist. ANd I would persume just cause you sit on your arse all day watching TV, doesn't mean they weren't around. In fact even further emphasizes my statement. You don't see them advertising french fries do you? DUH
3-30-2011 @8:56AM gobo said... Tell me, digi, who are you to ask for the "firing" of every writer here --- for correctly and accurately reporting the facts? These ARE new. Go to any BK and you'll see huge signs reading NEW CHICKEN TENDERS.
4-11-2011 @3:53AM Darkexiledone said... Actually these are new at many locations. If you have seen them around than congratulations, you are probably in one of their test markets. I just went to BK about an hour ago. Both the street sign and the drive thru menu said "Try our NEW chicken tenders."
3-29-2011 @9:07PM Digi said... I just have to emphasize how much an idiot the writer of this article is. Personally I'm betting he's a slacking low life, who couldnt get a 'article' in on time so while dicking around at lunch he made something up and probably used his lunch as material. LET ME EMPHASIZE ONE MAJOR POINT. THESE ARE NOT NEW! I've had them a few times when I worked in a DINKY town in IOWA, and they had them over 3 YEARS ago.
So please fire this writer for literally just dicking around and offering absolutely NO content or talent. Or else the next article he writes might be about Jack In the Box's 'brand new' curly fries.

3-30-2011 @1:01AM Digi said... @Kaci I'm sure people have told you the same thing, except in different context, plus I'd rather be a putz than a dink or a tool like yourself.......why lighten up on something that has no value, merit or purpose? Apparently you're one of those people that were always told 'you tried your best, good job' when you're still a loser.
3-30-2011 @8:56AM sasha said... Well BK sure has been advertising them on tv as NEW!
3-30-2011 @8:56AM gobo said... Stop spamming the site with your incorrect facts, Digi. They are, in fact, new. Go to any BK and you'll see the NEW TENDERS signs.
