Pepsi Skinny Can Back, This Time at Burger Bash 2011

Diet Pepsi "Skinny" -- is the marketing around the new product smart or just plain old annoying?

During Fashion Week, a time when New York City is surrounded by beautiful and slender women, Pepsi debuted its pint-size can dubbed the "Skinny Can." Everyone had something to say about it. In fact, it might have been more controversial than J. Woww walking down the runway is almost nothing.

Fine, we get it Pepsi, go big or go home.

However, as I walked inside the Burger Bash tent yesterday afternoon, I found myself face-to-face with these cans once again. Are you serious? Out of all places to show up during Food Network's Wine and Food Festival, they chose the Burger Bash?

The Burger Bash tent is lined up with more than 25 different burger creations. Lets be real here -- drinking Diet Pepsi from their Skinny can isn't going to help you in the calorie department.

But maybe I wasn't taking it all in. As I looked around a packed tent of gorgeous women, I realized that their marketing stint was genius. Whether it was the presence of skinny Pepsi cans or not, I saw people doing a lot of sharing. I even second-guessed myself on whether or not to finish my own burgers!

SoBe Wine and Food Festival is a time to indulge. For goodness sakes, a general admission ticket into Burger Bash is $200. When I walk in there, I want to be able to enjoy myself without thinking about the healthiness of what I'm eating. Honestly, I only do something this sinful once a year -- I think it's ok.

My prediction is that it will only do well if fans of the soda start drinking it in 'hip' spots like bars, nightclubs, or promoted events. However, as a complement to a greasy burger I can understand why Pepsi would choose the Burger Bash as an event to sponser. While the soda boasts little calories which seems foolish to accompany foods that don't so much take caloric content into account, not all soda lovers prefer the original recipe. I can personally account for those that like the taste of diet cola better than regular cola (I didn't always, I admit, but I do now!) If I were at the Burger Bash gorging on tasty calorie ridden foods for the evening I'd want soda to be my beverage at choice- diet soda.

I use "123 Get Samples" to find free samples of major brands online. Please note they update their samples every day but I just pick what ever available at that time and use them.
