Starbucks may be about to take on the single-cup coffee market. The ever-expanding giant of joe is rumored to be in talks to partner with Green Mountain Coffee, the company behind the trademarked K-Cups, those cute, convenient little single-serve portions that are used in Keurig coffeemakers, reports the New York Post. Green Mountain already reps Newman's Own, Folgers, Caribou Coffee, and Donut House K-Cups, and adding Starbucks one-cup brews would be a very showy feather in its cap. And for Starbucks? We can only guess that world domination of the caffeineated set is not far behind, one cup at a time.

The specialty drinks are OK but I realized after trying their Tassimo discs without any fancy flavouring that even their espresso tastes burnt, stale, and smells like "dirty feet" (as my mother puts it). Gross! I'd also rather stick to the Green Mountain-type stuff.

While coffee lovers usually perfer the taste of other coffee over the taste of Starbucks coffee, there is still a huge market for people who love the convenience and novelty of Starbucks. I, too, prefer the taste of Green Mountain to Starbucks drip coffee but if they can replicate their success with other instant coffee products like they have with VIA it would seem a no brainer for them to run with the idea. I just hope they thnk to develop K-cups that taste better than what you get in store!
