A Royal Wedding Portrait Made of Food

food portrait of engaged royal couple Prince William and Kate MiddletonPhotos by Rex Features DM / Rex USA

Sure, you've seen the royal couple's formal engagement pictures. But have you seen them rendered in turkey, cauliflower and roast beef? English artist Prudence Staite used the ingredients of a traditional Sunday supper to create an edible portrait of Prince William and Kate Middleton. The tribute (it really is meant to be a tribute) took hours to create, and features a chopped carrot dress for Kate and a shirt made of peas, cauliflower and green beans for William. Her now-famous ring? Gravy.

What possible explaination could there be for this bizarre food portrait? Publicity, of course. The portrait was commissioned by a U.K. restaurant chain that focuses on roasted meats. Martin Gosling, retail operations director for Crown Carveries, said they "wanted to give the happy couple a tasteful memento of their special day."

Tasty, maybe. But definitely not tasteful.

It's probably a very rare occurrence when a food site such as Slashfood gets to write a story about the royal couple! That said, I don't think the picture is very flattering. I've seen things done like this with coins and they turned out quite nicely.

I've seen your attempt at free advertisement on several different sites and I'd like to know exactly how pimping out young girls does not fall into the categories above? Be aware that I've reported you now and will continue to report you no matter what site you "comment" on or which of the many post names you happen to be using at the time. I hope other people will do the same.
