The Super Bowl Means Restaurant Deals

Whether you're rooting for the Steelers or Green Bay (or just the commercials), it's likely you'll tune into the Super Bowl this Sunday. (More than 106 million Americans watched the game last year.) Restaurant owners know the big game equals big business, so you can find all sorts of deals this weekend in honor of Sunday's big showdown.

Hosting a game-day party? You might want to consider serving pizza, since Papa John's, the "official pizza" partner for Super Bowl XLV, is conducting a sweepstakes for anyone who places an online order between 10am and 9:59 pm EST. As reported in Nation's Restaurant News, the chain is giving away $45 gift cards every 45 seconds, and offering $10 large pizzas all day. In addition, registering for "Papa Points" will win you a free large pizza if the game goes into overtime. Pizza Hut, too, is introducing a party option with its "Big Dipper" pizza, $12 for 24 strips of pizza and 4 cups of tomato sauce for dipping.

If you live in Pittsburgh, PA, or Green Bay, WI, and have a big appetite, you may not need to pay anything at all to host your own party: Owners of two Qdoba Mexican Grills in each city are hosting an eating competition on Saturday whose prize is a 55-inch LCD TV and free game-day catering. Winners of the eating contests in each respective location will go head-to-head via Skype to determine whether a Wisconsinite or Pennsylvanian will win the instant Super Bowl party.

Planning to leave the house? Keep an eye out for deals at restaurants on game day, too. Jack in the Box will be promoting its new All-American Jack burger, as well as a contest whose prize is a spring-break Cancun vacation for the winner plus 10 friends; and Denny's in Dallas (the host-city for the game) will have buy-one, get-one-for-45-cents deals. Local restaurants, too, may have their own promotions: Nation's Restaurant News reports that Carolina Ale House locations in North Carolina, for example, will be giving away flat-screen TVs to lucky diners during halftime. Could very well be the path to coming out a winner-no matter how your team does this year.
