It's hard to beat the Windy City when it comes to hot dogs, and Chicago proved its sausage supremacy again yesterday when Every Day with Rachael Ray magazine and SeriousEats.com named local favorite Gene & Jude's "Depression-style" dog the best in America. After narrowing the search down to 64 finalists, judges from both publications used a "March Madness"-style bracket to determine that Gene & Jude's dog -- topped with mustard, onion, relish, sport peppers and (here's the kicker) french fries -- deserved the crown.

My favorite is "Worthington" veggie links which are available at the health food stores as well as other brands. When animals are not murdered for hot dogs or any other foods then that becomes "America's Best Food"

I'm gonna murder me a meatloaf for dinner tonight...just for you.

Unfortunately the uneducated and uninformed will never see the light. Foods of plant origin provide all the necessary nutrients and lead to longer healthier lives.

A fish sandwich had a BIG bun with half a whale, coleslaw and fries on it. It was intended to be eaten one handed by truck drivers making deliveries to the local food wholesale warehouses in our Strip District.
So, what's wrong with ketchup on a hot dog. Isn't it a matter of what tastes good? Up north of pittsburgh in New Brighton, the Brighton hot Dog Shop serves you dogs with chili, cheese onions or kraut or any combination thereof. YUM!
P.S. To all you Chicagoans, I hail from Cal City.

It was a Sabrett dog with a homemade chili that was gastronomically delicious. I don't think it's there any more. But I heard the chili would be available in South Florida grocery stores under the name Cheyenne Chili Company. Loved it and I'm sure Rachel would too.

A double sized Vienna all beef hot dog with onions, relish, cucumber slices, mustard and a whole sliced tomato on top with celery salt . All in a poppy seed bun that was fresh baked.

I adore hot dogs but don't eat them as much as I used to.In the south I grew up with boiled pink hot dogs.I prefer the crispier ones like we had at Rutts Hutt in Clifton,NJ years ago.I had the " ripper ".Thanks to the shows on the Food Network,I've learned a lot about food in this country.Of course nothing finer than a Carolina pulled pork sandwich on a bun with coleslaw, hot sauce and vinegar. The country is discovering this now.I'll be in Chicago twice this year and I hope to taste a hot dog there.I have a faint southern accent so I may have to write down what I want.:)I also would like to try this place in Chicago that Rachael Ray recomended once, little lasagnas are served in a bowl then turned upside down on your plate.I have to check around online for the place.

But how about telling some hints on the best ways to cook the dogs (not what goes on top). Such as how long to cook, what to put in the water such as minced garlic or saurkraut juice. Come on people that's where you get creative.

I later moved to northeastern Wisconsin and expected no change (I'm only 170 miles north of the loop). I was wrong. Outside of Chicago metro they don't slice the beef thin enough so it's too chewy and does not retain enough juice. A good Italian Beef sandwich should not have to be dipped in the au jus. In doing so, the sandwich becomes sloppy to handle.
Hippo's was the tastiest, Frato's had the most generous portions and the best French fries.
Had I gone downtown more often (other than to work) I could have found many more great hot dogs and Italian Beef sandwiches. Generally, I ate lunch at the Billy Goat tavern (under the bridge) to chew the fat with Mike Royko. Ask any Chicagoan; the Billy Goat has to be on your visit list. Unfortunately, Mike Royko is no longer with us but he stands as a legend and Billy Goat doesn't serve hot dogs or Italian Beef; their specialty is burgers. I could be wrong; anyhow, the place is quite novel and and draws both millionaires and bums.
