Heavenly Grease - A Pork Nativity Scene

Christmas nativity scene made from pork productsPhoto: Greg Chow

"Away in an oven just kraut for his bed, the little Lord Jesus lay down his meat head."

Yes, folks, the traditional manger's in danger with this meaty makeover on the classic crèche. Mary and Joseph are made of sausages and cloaked in turkey cold cuts, while the Three Weiner Wise Guys sport tin-foil crowns. Christ himself is a mini chipolata, and he ain't gonna freeze this year -- his new Bethle-HAM is set to 350 degrees.

The figures are swathed in turkey, not bacon. And the baby is made from the same stuff as the other figures: "L'il Polksa" sausages.

Only the Old Testament... in fact, one of the first major separations between Christianity & Judaism is when the Christians decided they didn't need to follow kashruth any longer. (Which is in the Book of Acts, if I recall correctly.) Of course, Jesus and all his family were Jews, not Christians, so yourpoint kind of makes sense.

And what in heck is a chipolata?

It should never be portrayed by arranging hunks of raw meat on a cookie sheet. This is not "cute" - it is a mockery of the birth of the Christchild and is blaphemous to say the least. AOL should not allow it to be put on the web. Would a similar parody of Moses or Mohammed be allowed, without censure and possibly a lot worse happening. PLEASE AOL, DO THE RESPECTFUL AND RIGHT THING AND REMOVE THE CRECHE . iN IT'S PRESENT FORM , IT IS VERY OFFENSIVE.

Get over your bible thumping ways and understand that you cannot stop people from poking fun at religion. If it bothers you so much, prehaps you should take a hard look at yourself to see why.

I thought the little remake of "Away In A Manger" was clever and witty. Why did this have to come down to being offensive? Lighten up, have some fun. I think it is cute and I am a Christian. I appreciate God's gifting of talents, and of creativity. Celebrate and rejoice, some people were given the gift of Humor.

Think about something or someone that you hold dear, maybe something that you might even say is sacred to you. Maybe Michael Jackson, the Dalai Lama, a grandparent, a political figure even. Then imagine a statue of it made out of bacon, sausage, etc. Is it funny, or creepy and disturbing?
Do you have to be so narrow-minded and judgmental?

It is censorious silliness like your post that makes many dismiss Christianity. The pork nativity does no harm and it is very funny.
