What's going on behind the venerable ramparts of White Castle?
As Nation's Restaurant News reports, it appears that the chain is looking to be home to more than just its oddly addictive little sliders. It's testing three different restaurant-within-a-restaurant concepts, trying its hand at a strangely diverse mix of fast-food fare: barbecue, pressed club sandwiches, and "Americanized Asian noodles."
Taken together, it kind of looks like company executives simply headed down to the food court at their local mall and had an epiphany: "Hey, we could do all this!"
Inside one of its restaurants in Lafayette, Indiana, White Castle recently opened Blaze, which it bills as "modern barbecue." (We have no clue what they mean by "modern" here; presumably they won't be serving mastodons on a spit.) According to the online menu, Blaze offers a range of barbecue staples, from pulled chicken to brisket, and traditional sides (baked beans, mashed potatoes, etc.).
Perhaps trying to capitalize on the recent mega-sandwich trend, the chain has also launched Deckers at its location in Lebanon, Tennessee. To quote from the menu: "Each Decker is stacked and packed with 3 layers of bread and 2 layers of meat, cheese, veggies and condiments, then grilled to hot, crispy, melty perfection."
As for the third new concept, the noodle shop -- it seems the company is preparing to open that at a store in Springfield, Ohio, but even the intrepid folks at Nation's Restaurant News couldn't get White Castle to say more. All we know is that the company recently filed to register the trademark for the name "Laughing Noodle."
No doubt that Harold and Kumar, at least, will think it's hilarious.

When I was a kid they were 11 cents (i'm 63 now) I moved from the city years ago and miss them
very much. Whenever I go back my first stop is WC. Sure they have gone up in price but who hasn't?
Micky Ds were cheap also I think 20 cents when they first opened. The thing now about WC is the
way they are set up now. Because many were built in the ghetto which wasn't a ghetto at the time,
they are built like a bank, with teller like windows and bullet proof glass but it is worth it. The sliders
are still the best burgers. They also have the best onion rings, but the best fries are from Nathans
which began in Brooklyn. They have some here in Jersey and I love their dogs and especially their
fries. yum........

I think the food was starting to rot and they were still serving it. We tossed them and went somewhere else to eat. Now when we pass through Columbus we laugh at the fools eating there. We certainly will never go to a White Castle again.

No salt ,pepper or any kind of spice just plain boiled chicken. If it was not for the sauce (which could have been better) there would have been no flavor at all.
The pork did have a hint of garlic and that is about it. Both meats were moist and tender but lacking in flavor.
I will have to say the side dishes were tasty. As a whole the meal left me dissapointed.

Imagine our dissapointment when we received our "hamburgers". A thin slice of balogna inside a dinner roll. We all laughed when we realized we had been taken into a big joke.
