Best Boardwalk Food in America

Who doesn't love a Nathan's hot dog or a cold, creamy cone of Kohr's custard?

Boardwalk food is a staple of American summer eating, and from coast to coast, both sweet and savory treats line the country's shores, Womansday.com reported.

What are the best boardwalk bites?

If you're at New York's Coney Island, Nathan's Hot Dogs better be on your menu. The seaside hot dog joint was founded by Polish immigrant Nathan Handwerker in 1916 and has been drawing in hot dog lovers ever since. Today it sells more than 360 million dogs a year, Womansday.com reported.

Atlantic City's boardwalk strollers should try the salt water taffy. The city is even called "The Saltwater Taffy Capital of the World" -- named for its early taffy entrepreneurs, Joseph Fralinger and Enoch James, taffy-making rivals in the early 1900s who would hawk their wares to beachgoers. The James family still sells thousands of pounds of the candy each year, Womansday.com reported.

For those with a sweet tooth who want to cool down in the summer's heat, hit up the Jersey Shore's Kohr's Frozen Custard in Seaside Heights, a staple since the 1920s with flavors like butterscotch and bubblegum. (You can also try the deep-fried Oreo on the Jersey Shore.)

If you can't choose between the sweet and savory, try California's oldest seaside amusement park at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk for some chocolate-covered bacon. Traditionally the go-to place for garlic fries, the chocolate-covered bacon has become a local hit at Marini's, a sweet shop that's called the boardwalk its home since 1915.

Other boardwalk must-haves include Thrasher's fries in Ocean City, Md., Jane's Corndogs in Newport Beach, Calif, and the Zweigle's "white hot dog" -- a combo of uncured pork, beef and veal -- on the Ontario Beach boardwalk on the shore of Lake Ontario in upstate New York.

It is similar to Italian Ice with the flavors, but it is much softer, like ice cream. They give out free samples. My favorite flavor is a twist of Mango and Pina Colada.

Please Someone show a picture of the BEST BOARDWALK FRIES at Thrashers, OC, Maryland......
You always have to stand in a quick moving line, raining or sunshine, they were cooking up the fries.
On a cold rainy day at the beach, those hot, tasty BROADWALK FRIES would just warmed you up.
Trasher's have the real BOADWALK FRIES........

A Nathan's hot dog can't compare with a Foot-Long boiled in beer and 'dragged thru the garden' at Peach's Corner! Ocean-Front Grille offers hand-cut fries with grilled onions covered with cheeze and chilli and there's a little stand past Ocean-Front that has corn-on-the-cob boiled in sea water and butter! Unfortunately, the ABSOLUTE BEST 2 places are gone: 'Sloppy Joe's' had a 'super Sloppy cheeseburger that you HAD to use a knife & fork to eat and the Pavilion had the BEST Pizza-by-the-slice on the Grand Strand! As far as Northern French Fries go, the BEST were at Victoria Pier in Auton Bay, NH. Don't overlook Boardwalk food in the South!
