Top Chef Ilan Hall's New Role: Dad

Photo: Riccardo Savi

Top Chef's boy wonder Ilan Hall, who won the second season's competition at the tender age of 24 has announced that he and his girlfriend, Ayame Kawaguchi, are expecting a new mouth to feed.

Hall, who after leaving reality TV behind has thrown his energy into opening The Gorbals in LA, jokingly urged his Twitter followers to come into the restaurant and help "start a college fund for my baby on the way!"

Hall's take-no-prisoners cooking style won him not only top TV accolades but also celebrity status. Fatherhood will be a new gig for the young chef, who told Life & Style magazine, "I hope I don't mistake him for a suckling pig."

Not to worry: Hall's paternal instinct will kick in soon. In the meantime, Hall's girlfriend will be eating for two -- and one can only assume she'll be eating well.

He reminded me of a junior highschooler who could only feel good about himself by being mean to someone else. And his cooking was not all that clever. I agree with the 700,000 or so other people who watched the show - Marcel definitely should have won.

Serious TV takes up approximately two channels--history & Nat. Geo. Otherwise, the entire purpose of TV is ENTERTAINMENT!!! Each person's version of that is different!! If you don't like it, don't watch it!!

Don't get me wrong it think that "reality TV" is just sickening, but all TV, aside from News, documentaries and a few other shows is all fake and unimportant.
I'm just saying...
Peace, Love and a Pocketful of Sunshine!!

Anyone that thinks this is ok needs some help in the morals and values department. I am tired of this kind of action being taken as ok. We are sending a bad signal to the children of today. Grow up and stop acting like a bunch of honey idiots.

Okay, I promise I'm not saying this because I disliked him on the show (Marcel was annoying, but that's no reason to bully him and physically attack him in his sleep), or as some kind of unfunny joke, but for some reason (though I can now vaguely, vaguely recall that he might have mentioned a girlfriend on the show) I remembered him as being gay.

Maybe it's just the uncanny resemblance to Ted Allen. I don't know.

But, um, best of luck, I guess? I hope the kid grows up to be less of an ass than his/her dad.

The guys whole entire schitck is foam.

In my opinion Top Chef is by far the best of reality show/competitions. They are using individuals that are already established as cooks & chefs, and are generally equally matched.

Whatever one thinks of Ilan as a person, to knock his cooking is just absurd.
