These Burgers Lead the Glamorous Life

We found the name of Cheesecake Factory's latest line of luxe burgers a little odd: Glamburgers. Seriously? Founder David Overton defends the choice: "We wanted to transcend the burger category, and the word 'hamburger' just didn't seem to do them justice," he says.

There are six of these new "upscale" burgers, all of which pay homage to a specific region of the country. The Memphis Burger is beef patty topped with barbecued pork, melted cheddar and coleslaw, while the Sonoma Burger boasts oven-roasted tomatoes, arugula, red onion, and herbed goat cheese (welcome back to the 80s, ladies and gentleman).

The company is also running a contest to let those of us outside the test kitchen create the next signature Glamburger. "The Great Glamburger Challenge" runs through the end of May with an interactive website that allows entrants to submit a customized virtual hamburger with their favorite combination of toppings, cheeses and sauces.

More about Glamburgers after the jump.
If you're not in the mood to compete, just click around the site; it's admittedly fun to see what people have dreamed up so far. (Our vote for "most likely to have been created while intoxicated" goes to John D. from Chicago, who's proposed "meat lover's burger" is loaded with salami, fried egg, Vidalia onion, applewood-smoked bacon, pepperoni, pastrami, steak sauce, and yellow mustard. Just...wow.)

If you think you can create a burger with a bit more restraint, it's worth a shot: The winner of the contest wins a three-night vacation to one of the locations that inspired the original burgers.

My husband and I have decided that we won't eat at restaurants during the week any more and cook for ourselves. This has helped us cut out a lot of the excess calories and generally eat a lot healthier. There was one problem. He wouldn't get off his lazy butt and I found I was doing all the cooking.. then I went out and found this beginners recipe book for him.. it was so perfect..so hilarious, and very politically incorrect. I won't tell you the name of the book on here.. cause some of the more conservative readers will jump down my throat, but if you have a good sense of humor and are not easily offended.. google "Whipped & Beaten Culinary Works".. but seriously. .don't goto the site if you can't take a good joke!

Jennifer

I would eat half and enjoy the other half the next day. An occasional treat when I eat a normally VERY healthy diet is MY perogative...and that healthy ATTITUDE about food, and my compassion for those who struggle with weight...is what keeps me from being in the bathroom with you sticking my finger down my throat. (and before I get dumped on by anorexics, I have compassion for them as well...just not for SNOTTY FATTISTS)

Cause I do cross-country and track and when you run 4 miles every day you burn all your fat and the reward is a sexy six-pack.

It's this thing called exercise, maybe you should try it instead of starving yourself. There is such a as a healthy balance and one hamburger won't make you fat. But being hateful like you are makes ugly from the inside out.

I do exercise and I don't eat this kind of food. It is a fact that if a person eats this kind of food all the time....it becomes fat and it also causes heart disease in the long run. I prefer to live a healthy lifestyle and I do exercise and watch what I eat.
