They introduced the world to the Double Down "sandwich": an artery-clogging extravaganza that replaces buns with deep-fried chicken filets, with melted cheese and bacon strips in between. It has 540 calories, 32 grams of fat and 1,380 milligrams of sodium. So the Colonel is raising money for cancer while selling food that increases the risk of diabetes, heart attacks and all manner of other health problems.
Maybe ironic isn't the best word. Hypocrisy might be a better fit.

Companies, just like people, don't have a singular ethos.
They might do somethings that you agree with, and some that you don't.
Whole Foods's President recently wrote a letter to the editor lambasting the Democrat's health care package. Wal-Mart is the nation's largest seller of organic goods.
If you appreciate the fact that KFC is doing something to raise money to fight breast cancer, then good for KFC. The fact that they released a meatless, bacon & cheese filled sandwich is irrelevant.
Also, 540 calories and 32 grams of fat is probably less than what's in the amount of fried chicken people eat.

I don't see anyone complaining about the government using tax money from cigarrettes and beer to fund healthcare. I think the hypocrites are the people who are complaining while acting the food police.

As for all the folks fussing about how awful the new "sandwich" is, don't buy one. The most powerful law in the universe is that of supply and demand. As long as there's a demand, for anything, there will be a supply. Want the offending item/service/product to go away, eliminate the demand. Whining, hand-wringing, and foot-stomping never work; getting rid of the demand always has and always will.

Dear Frank,
Do you realize that bacon is a meat? Plus the bun is replaced by deep fried chicken filets. There's plenty of meat there. But thank you for giving me a chuckle.
However, if KFC is doing something good, by donating to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, I think nay sayers should leave them alone. Plus, I love their chicken, but I don't buy it everyday. So, if I can help by buying it once a month, I don't think the food police should come after me. This business is doing something positive...I don't think they're hypocrites.

Why the hell would an organization that is attempting (or so they say) to eradicate breast cancer get in bed with an organization that promotes it? This is going in the wrong direction. It isn't just about the money here. I am a breast cancer survivor and know what i am talking about.
4-21-2010 @11:05AM sweetforme said... Guess what?!? People are going to buy fried chicken anyway!
Someone previous mentioned supply and demand. Companies like KFC will survive as long as there is a demand. Pretty much as long as we have chicken on this planet, someone is going to want their fried chicken. So, while your concerns are justifiable, they are misdirected a little. The pairing of the two companies may seem odd, but private fundraisers and donations to these charities is how they survive. You certainly don't want our government trying to get involved in charity now do you?
KFC is doing a good thing by donating a portion of their proceeds to a worthy cause. Last I checked, we still live in the country with the most freedom of choice on our planet. So, if you don't like fried chicken don't buy it! Hundreds of other companies participate in donating to the Susan G Kommen Foundation this time of year. You don't have to like KFC or what they stand for but don't call them hypocrites.
4-21-2010 @2:21PM Bits said... How about KFC do something about the inhumane way they kill their chickens? Boiling them alive is "cost saving" and says alot about this company. Not until they change their animal welfare practices will I ever step foot or drive thru one again....and as far as the Susan G. Komen fund.....they are also guilty of animal abuse....in their laboratories....I support charities only that do not test on animals. Check out humaneseal.org for a list of research institutes that do not test on animals. This is a barbaric process that need not be with all the advance technology we now have.

The most horrid aspect of this whole thing is the commercials, where what is assumed to be family and friends offer buckets of fried chicken to cancer victims... food their doctors would probably advise against eating. I am all for funding cancer research, but pink buckets of KFC are the 'blood diamonds' of charitable donations.

At least KFC is offering to help this Susan breast cancer. Anytime any company helps a fund I think is wonderful. Some people find fault in everything.
