KFC Double Down Sandwich Taste Test

Rachel Been, AOL

The day has finally come for KFC's gluttonous Double Down sandwich to premier, and we were among the first in line to test it this morning (yes, we were eating this sandwich at 10:45 a.m.). The Double Down (also available with grilled chicken) consists of two boneless Original Recipe Filets, two strips of bacon, two slices of Monterey Jack and pepperjack cheese and a special Colonel's Sauce.

The complete review after the jump.

KFC's Double Down Sandwich
Grade: B
Nutritional Info: 540 calories, 32 grams fat,1380 mgs sodium
This sandwich isn't for the faint of heart. The sodium intake alone will knock you off your feet: Our testers determined the salty culprit seemed to be the breading on the chicken, though it was pleasingly crispy and the meat itself was quite moist. The bacon was legit -- it didn't have the usual weirdly chewy, artificial bacon-bit taste -- but it was essentially lost, both physically and flavor-wise (along with the cheese), between the two behemoth chicken filets. And there was a lot of discussion around whether the cheese was really a cheese spread, or if it had just melded with the special sauce.

The verdict: with a complete bite of chicken, cheese, bacon and sauce, this sandwich really isn't bad. While we probably wouldn't order another (unless you're really jonesing for a salt fix), we happily finished off the one we bought. We can foresee this becoming the new "hangover food" of choice.

Does the sandwich come with a moist towelette? Or do you just wipe your fingers on your jeans after? Do you get breading on your fingers? How about if you just changed the oil in your car? Would you get motor oil on the chicken and then you're eating that, too? What if a politician comes into the KFC and is shaking everyone's hand and he's one of those Purell maniacs? Does that get on your chicken, too? KFC has a lot of answers it needs to provide.

It has a paper wrapper, otherwise just wrap a napkin around it and eat through it. How do you eat a gyro or suoliaki? It's messy and greasy too, even the pita around it. And wash your hands, what would you eat a sandwich after going to the bathroom? How is that better? And that's why I don't go there if I don't have time, I have to eat in so I can go to wash up after I'm done. Or carry soap with you.

How many times do you get winded? How many times do you look in the mirror ashamed of your weight? Now, I dont want to say too much else, because I dont want to offend, but you're being so naive! You are not normal weight! And you are definitely not a healthy weight! If you care about yourself, family, friends, or the environment at all, you would try to be HEALTHY and NORMAL

Just because it is unhealthy does not mean it should be outlawed. Also, when you say, "Obama type people", what exactly are you referring to? I was not aware that Obama followers or any political leader followers looked different enough that you can point them out in a crowd. If you were really intelligent as you claim you are you would know that. you would also know that a small cup of cottage cheese is not a meal, its a snack. Do yourself a favor and think about how you just sounded in that ignorant and prejudiced comment you posted, which contributed absolutely nothing to the discussion.

540 calories? I wonder how many MORE calories a person will intake with the soda, ketchup, fries, and whatever else they consume with it. Racking to more than 600, no doubt...even more than 700, maybe more than 800.
And the average person should consume about 2,000 calories a day IF active.

Not to mention the fat in it, cholesteral, sodium, and the drugs used ont hose chickens.
The living conditions of those animals smell so strong of ammonia, it can make a person faint if they were to enter. They never get fresh air, never get sunlight, most never spread their wings, their beaks are shaved down without pain killers, and they only live an average of 40 days (as opposed to the 10 years they would live in the wild). Most have their legs snap under the pressure of their bloated-from-steroids-ad-hormoes-bodies.

Anybody who can eat this without thinking twice is just heartless. No exceptions, no excuses. It's disgusting.

Any religion or even person that thinks that and does not accept others because of it is afraid. They are afraid of the possibility that the other one could be right, so they feel they have to put them down instead of just accepting that they have different beliefs.
