Perfectly Brewed Iced Coffee - Tip of the Day

With warmer weather comes a craving for cold drinks. One of our favorites? Iced coffee. The secret is cold-brewing.

Take one cup of coffee (ground for French press or other coarse grind) and combine with about 5 cups cold water in a large glass jar or plastic container. Brew on counter overnight or up to 12 hours, then chill. Strain twice through a paper or metal coffee filter to remove any coffee grinds or particles. Pour over ice for a very strong version, or dilute with some water, then sweeten and add milk as desired.

And as a party favorite.........Bailey's poured over coffee ice cubes. Try it......you won't be disappointed.

We found it helped us cut the calories.. the problem was that I was doing all the cooking, while he sat on his butt. then i found this beginner's cookbook for him.. it was perfect.. hilarious, and very politically incorrect. I can't tell you the name of the book on here.. cause some of the more conservative readers will jump down my throat, but if you have a good sense of humor and are not easily offended.. google "Whipped & Beaten Culinary Works".. but seriously. .don't go if you can't take a good joke!

I've been doing this for years. I do the same thing with making cubes with tea, for iced tea as well. My daughter always tells me I do such a thing, as I "have nothing better to do". It was funny one day when she and her husband were over and he was helping himself to ice tea. When he got in the freezer for ice cubes, he went and whispered to my daughter, "your mom's ice cubes are brown."!!! I always make more coffee than I would drink in the morning and keep it in the frig. (Never tastes old). On most days, I will just drink it black and have chocolate covered caramels or some other chocolate to go with it. What a treat....such a wonderful combination of the 2 flavors.

Get a blender, but a few crushed Ice cubes, add flavor/sweetner and blend. Then pour over Ice.
I use flavored creamers for the flavor/sweet. FANTASTIC

Your daughter will remember the little details such as "coff/tea ice cubes" as perfection once you are gone.......how special you made everything for everyone. Knowledge of such things are wasted on the young. Too bad young folks are moving so fast (not their fault....today's world demands it), that they can't appreciate the little things.

My fave is actually espresso over ice [with a shot of chocolate] -- the hot espresso melts the ice to make a perfectly smooth yet strong iced coffee. If it's still too strong, you can add a touch of water or milk as desired.
