Slashfood started off the morning on Monday by picking up SUBWAY's five new breakfast sandwiches: Black Forest Ham, Egg & Cheese and Steak, Western Egg & Cheese, Egg & Cheese, Double Bacon Egg & Cheese, and regular Egg & Cheese. The new breakfast menu also features healthier sides like yogurt and apple slices.
"In the end, though, it is the customers that create the best sandwiches with the choices they make with toppings, sauces, cheeses, breads and condiments. Our breakfast will be no different," SUBWAY Executive Chef, Chris Martone said in a press release today. Besides the five breakfast sandwiches, customers can create their own: egg or egg white, American or Cheddar cheese, ham and/or bacon, and up to eight fruit and vegetable toppings on a wheat English muffin, sub roll or flatbread.
Our testers were not as enthusiastic about the sandwiches as Martone.
The complete review after the jump.

7 Myths of Long-Term Care

4-05-2010 @7:25PM Amy said... Subway's breakfast sandwiches aren't new. I have been getting 6-inch breakfast sandwiches for years and I love them. In fact, I had a western omelet sandwich this morning! They are extremely tasty and very filling! I wasn't even hungry for lunch today.
However, when I tried one of their sandwiches on one of their new English muffins, I found it soggy and with all of the flavor of cardboard. Same for the flatbread. Stick to the traditional Italian white bread, and you may add Subway to your regular breakfast routine.

All of their "meats" are made out of pressed bits and pieces of whatever is left after the good cuts go elasewhere. Even their "chicken breasts", which are all the same size and have the same phony grill marks, are nothing but pressed pieces of chicken that years ago would have been thrown out. They get those pieces of chicken by spinning the carcass so that the remaining bits and pieces come off the bones from centrifical force, and they are then boung together with water and carrageenan. That's the garbage you get on a $5 foot long sub. How else do you think they could many money at that price?

4-07-2010 @10:35AM Eating Machine said... Personally, I think that anyone that eats the garbage at any Subway needs their insides checked out completely. I just don't know how anyone cane even get past that foul odor when you first open the door. It seems that no matter which Subway I have been to, I always smell this sickening odor when I walk in, and I need to immediately walk out.
My favorite "fast food" breakfast sandwich is the Steak, Egg & Cheese Bagel at McDonald's. These rock beyond belief! And this is also the ONLY thing I will ever eat at McDonald's. I also enjoy the Jack in The Box Steak and Egg Burrito. It's actually pretty decent as well. But all in all, when it comes to fast food, I will always prefer Carl's Jr. I have never been disappointed there, and the new Big Carl is one rocking burger! They had recently done a Steak Sandwich that was a limited time thing that I wish would return permanently. It rivaled the McDonald's Steak, Egg & Cheese Bagel, but again, this was a lunchtime sandwich.
Now, in the "mom and Pop" fast food category, there is a place in Antioch, CA called Hazel's Drive In. I small out of the way place with a 50's theme. I have tried pretty much everything on their menu and believe me, I have NRVER been unhappy with anything I have eaten there, and they have a great selection from burgers to Philly Steak, to Linguica sandwiches. It all rocks. One of my biggest draws there is also their milk shakes. I have never had better anywhere, and they have about 25 different flavors! If you are ever even within miles of this place, be sure to check it out!

4-07-2010 @1:13PM Andy said... The advertising and boasting about the nutritional content and calorie comparrisons got me to try them. At the same time I am a fairly regular lunch time subway customer. But not for breakfast again. Why can't they toast the muffins???? tried two of the sandwiches and could not finish them, tasted like cold, soggy, tasteless bluckghh!! The eggs were precooked and out with the sand which meat in a tray? The sandwich ingredients just didn't cut it on a breakfast sandwich. I'll take an McDonalds Egg McMuffin anyday over these. At least the eggs are cooked fresh. I order them sometimes with no butter and cheese, to keep away from the fat and keep the nutrional value in my best interests.
Good Luck to Subway on future improvements to this product offering !!

4-06-2010 @12:10AM Kat said... What I got from that comment was that the steak tasted like "Steak Umms" (hopefully I spelled that right). If I remember correctly, since I haven't eaten them in forever, they were a frozen product that you could buy at the grocery store.
4-06-2010 @10:19AM Spoonman said... He said it tasted like a "Steak Umm", which don't taste anything like steak. In Philly, we call them "Evil".
4-07-2010 @9:14AM Sam said... Only someone named Gudio would not understand. You must work at Subway or should I say sub-standard.
4-07-2010 @10:52AM Danielle said... Sam: Do you think your more sophisticated than him because you know what a steak umm is?
4-07-2010 @11:01AM jayme said... like biting into steak isn't the same as tasting like steak.
4-07-2010 @2:25PM Guido said... Nope, no idea what a "Steak Umm" is. And Guido is not my actual name, its what we like to call an "alias". While I know the name is these days synonymous with spike haired, orange skin douche-bags. For me it originated with father Guido Sarducci.

A "miracle" because only lots of glitz can sell who knows how old "cold cuts" and boast a slogan,,, "eat fresh"... Eaters in a faltering nationwide economy are getting wiser in making food choices. The fast food servers will find it more and more difficult to win and keep market share in the near future. Happy hour! :-)

At least the nutritional facts don't look all THAT bad...I can guarantee they blow McDonald's, Burger King, etc. Out of the water.--- They are simply marketing these new sandwiches as "new" as far as I know...I had breakfast at subway months ago for the first time and found (like usual) the sandwiches to be very 'skimpy'...LOAD IT UP!!! lol. One great breakfast that's fast is actually Burger King. I am not a fan for lunch but they use excellent quality ham for a fast food joint and I truly do not think it is pressed together processed ham, this is the real deal. They also load it on. The egg is not like eating a sponge like a certain donut coffee chain *ghee i wonder what place thatis* and I like the croissants. They also have a new menu w/ pancakes and all that and these great "gourmet" type sandwiches that are made on Ciabatta rolls. I tried the egg, ham, bacon, cheese, 'special sauce' and tomato option and it was excellent. I reccomend!!! Not sure on nutrional value though :|
