McDonald's fans may be lovin' it even more this summer if the fast-food chain's plan to sell sodas for $1 goes through.
Executives from both McDonald's and the Coca-Cola Co. have been trying to get franchises sweet on the deal at recent regional meetings, according to the Wall Street Journal. Hoping to become the place where people flock to buy beverages, McDonald's wants to offer sodas of any size for only $1.
The low prices will slash soft-drink profits at Golden Arches restaurants, which rely on soda sales as among their biggest moneymakers.
Though McDonald's has tried summer dollar-drink promotions in the past, it's pushing harder for the idea to stick this time around, two franchises told the Journal.
The company is hoping the deal will last 150 days, beginning on Memorial Day.
Last year, most of the chain's franchises rejected the suggestion to offer all sodas for a dollar and instead only sold large sweet tea at that price, the paper reported.
The proposal is the latest example of how McDonald's is trying to stay far ahead of its competition.
Its strategies are working. The company's earnings are up 4 percent over last month, and its shares have spiked by more than 20 percent in the last two years, according to the 24/7 Wall St. blog. Burger King's shares, in contrast, have dipped by 25 percent.

Every now and then I give in to a quarter pounder with cheese , fries and a Dr. Pepper. I have been good lately about choosing a grilled chicken salad over a quarter pounder. I wish they would offer perhaps a wheat bun choice over a regular bun on their sandwiches and perhaps try and see how it would sell to offer a veggie burger. My weekend treat for a long time was their Deluxe breakfast with the hotcakes, sausage, biscuit, hash browns and eggs.....my goodness! have to get there before 11:00a.m. on weekends to get that! McDonald's is of the most affordable and conveniently located fast food chains around and with busy lifestyles and many locations of McDonald's around, it is tough to pass them up.

It's a riot watching all the high school age employees trying to figure that one out. For what it's worth, there is at least one McD's in my area that sells a single pie for 50 cents. I like to think that it is because they decided to just give in rather than make their employees try to figure it out

The $1 sodas would be a great deal and all, it's too bad that I refuse to buy ANY fountain drinks anywhere anymore on account of the fact that there was a study done where it was found that well over half of the soda fountains were found to have unacceptable levels of fecal bacteria in them. Schools are taking sodas out of their vending machines and now McDonalds wants to get take advantage of the situation. This is a company that sells Sweet Tea for $1 and Unsweetened Tea for $1.79. Don't you see, your killing your customers?

She quotes... ' We need to work toward the goal of equalizing income, (didn ' t Marx say something like this?), in our country and at the same time limiting the amount the rich can invest. ' (I am not rich, are you?)
When asked how these new tax dollars would be spent, she replied:
' We need to raise the standard of living of our poor, unemployed and minorities. For example, we have an estimated 12 million illegal immigrants in our country who need our help along with millions of unemployed minorities. Stock market windfall profits taxes could go a long way to guarantee these people the standard of living they would like to have as ' Americans ' . '
