Remember That? Top 15 Fast Food Fails

Not every new fast-food creation is a hit. In fact, many are spectacularly bad.

From McDonald's McD.L.T., with its hot and cold sides that you put together yourself, to that time KFC -- then still called Kentucky Fried Chicken -- tried to convince America that eating fried chicken livers was a good idea, Chicago Now ranked the top 15 fast-food failures in a trip down bad-memory lane.

And all the big players have had their misses, some more dismal than others.

McDonald's tops the list with the worst idea in fast food: the Arch Deluxe, a "grown up" burger that Chicago Now called "the crown jewel of McFailure." Launched in the 1990s, the company hyped the Arch D. as the burger for grown-ups with Spanish onions, a potato bun and "grown-up mustard." Unfortunately, it just didn't taste very good.

The McPizza and the ill-fated Hula Burger, a Lenten treat that would offer Catholics another non-meat option than the Filet-o-Fish, featured a pineapple slice in place of the burger patty. Would you like ketchup on that pineapple? How about a pickle?

McDonald's McLobster and McBrats also made the list.

Wendy's Super Bar, which combined a salad bar, a Mexican taco and burrito bar and an Italian pizza and pasta station, goes down in fast-food fail history, Chicago Now reported.

Burger King's table service and popcorn were big fails, and the King's flame-broiled style didn't go over well with the vegetarian crowd when it introduced the BK VEGGIE burger.

Most places put cheese and ketchup on everything and those are the two things I dislike on a burger. Then Burger Chef was bought out by Hardees. The all time favorite where I grew up in Pensacola, Florida, was Whataburger and still is. Wish they would come to the midwest.

I think everything McDonalds sells is nasty. They used to make the best fries but they caved in to the food nazis' and changed their oil. BTW KFC still sells chicken livers and they are good.

I was a senior in high school working part-time after school at McDonalds when the McDLT came out. Oh, it was a BIG deal...we had a formal party to rival any wedding reception to get us all stoked about it. It was the first McD burger with all the toppings, you know, what we take for granted today, lettuce, tomatoes, etc. Honestly, I thought it was a darned tasty burger. However, the packaging WAS excessive and SO "un-green" by today's standards.

When I was a kid the Burger Chef in Temple Terrace, FL (a suburb of Tampa,) had that burger toppings bar, the first like it I'd ever seen (remembering this was in the 70's.) If I wanted a burger with a 20 pickles, I'd make a burge with 20 pickles!!! Take that, Burger King on the other side of the shopping plaza, who promised to make it my way, but to whom "extra pickles," meant 3 instead of 2!

On top of the work load, customers would often feed more than one person with a salad bar plate. And some folks were disgusting, sticking their hands into the lettuce and containers, slopping dressing all over the place, letting their kids run roughshod with a plate. You're better off without it. God know what a mess the super bar must have been (after my time).

If there's a Golden Corral near you, hang out for a while near the salad bar and you'll get the idea.
