Just Born Unleashes Chocolate-Covered Peeps!

Just Born, Inc.

For years we've welcomed spring by biting through the sugary skin of chicks and bunnies to get to the soft and sweet marshmallow Peep inside. But this Easter, things are looking especially bright: Peeps manufacturer Just Born has let loose a new horde of sugary holiday snacks, housing their classic marshmallow flavor in both milk and dark chocolate. No, we're not talking about a little Peep nestled in an outer chocolate shell.

These guys aren't exactly like their classic brethren. Dunked into melted chocolate, these chicks -- no bunnies allowed in this club -- come in individually wrapped packages. Second, these new Peeps are lacking the crackling outer coating of sugar. Instead, to give the candy that classic Easter color, Just Born has colored the tasty 'mallow inside a nice pastel yellow.

Can chocolate bring new life to the beloved Easter treat, and match the piles of bunnies and chicks that find their way into eager Easter baskets, culinary adventures, and movie dioramas? Can you bear to bite into a Peep without its colorful skin and white center? We'll leave that answer up to you:

Chocolate-covered Peeps: yay or nay?

I will not be trying the new Peeps. I am very dissappointed that for someone to like something sweet it has to be covered in chocolate. I stand by the originals and hope the chocolate is just a fad.

I have to agree with Suki..........'Peeps' for me will always be with their special sugary coating. There is such a huge variety of chocolate eggs, bunnies, etc. at Easter. It makes no sense to cover peeps w/chocolate. I simply don't get it.........leave the peeps alone!!!!!!!

Ahhh LOVE MY PEEPS!

I think flavored peeps would be GREAT. Like cherry flavored marshmallow or strawberry or lemon. Different flavors like jellybeans. Still have the coating of colored sugar. make the marshmallow colored yellow for lemon .. and so on ... I have tryed the chocolate ones like this and they are good. I am going to give the clocolate dipped ones I try,but I just don't think it is going to seem like a peep .. we already have chocolate covered marshmallow everthing.

You may not see some of them depending on where you're located as some stores may simply not purchase certain Just Born products other then the usual more common ones. Most times some stores simply only order the tried and true products that they already know will sell, and don't usually take a chance on some of the more unusual things unless they get enough requests from the customers that frequent their stores. Just Born has already produced Cocoa flavored ones on different seasonal ones (We kinda got a kick out of those when they first started doing those around halloween many years ago, and now do them at other holidays). They also have produced strawberry and orange flavored ones, which I believe they were usually only in the egg shape. I also seem to remember them have mint flavored ones, possibly around christmas time if I recall.

It's a little easier for us around here to find out about some of the more unusual stuff coming out of the Just Born factory (as well as the other types of products produced based on their products like stuffed animals and whatnot), considering we only live a little over a half an hour from the main factory.
