If you're trying to trim down, french fries are probably not the best idea, but which fries are a little indulgence and which are downright diet busters?
The authors of "Eat This, Not That!" have ranked some of America's most fattening, unhealthy French fries -- and picked the "Best French Fries in America." And the winner may surprise you, Men's Health reported.
Which are the Worst Fries in America?
That dubious distinction goes to Chili's Texas Cheese Fries w/Jalapeno Ranch which pack a whopping 1,920 calories, 147 g fat (63 g saturated) and 3,580 mg sodium.
"The only thing that comes close to redeeming this cheesy mound of lard and grease is the fact that it's ostensibly meant to be shared with a few friends. Even so, you'll collectively be taking in an entire day's worth of calories, three days' allotment of saturated fat, and a day and a half's allotment of sodium," wrote David Zincezenko, author of "Eat This, Not That!" and editor of Men's Health magazine.
A large order of Five Guys Fries is the winner of the Worst Regular Fries prize with 1,464 calories, 71 g fat (14 g saturated) and 213 mg sodium. In the curly fries category, the worst are Arby's Curly Fries which have 640 calories, 34 g fat and 1,460 mg sodium into a large order.
"When one side dish accounts for nearly three-quarters of your daily allotment of salt, you know there's a problem," Zincezenko wrote.
On the other hand, if you're looking for the Best Fast Food Fries in America, look no farther than the golden arches.
A small order of McDonald's French Fries has just 230 calories, 11 g fat (1.5 g saturated) and 160 mg sodium.

I now there is making a profit but this is getting so greedy and charging 3000% increase. I moved over to Jack in the Box because they have better deals.

They used to be pretty good, but a few years ago they put that terrible coating on them. Too bad, because they make much better burgers than McDonalds. So now we go to BK for the burger, and across the street to McD for the fries!

Small McD fry and Whopper Jr. Sometimes I go all out and get a classic chicken! Whoa!! I rarely drink soda anymore. I usually get the iced Joe, way better than the overpriced McCaffe. And Wendys fries are nasty too. I love Checkers fries. I hate Checkers staff, I have yet to find a Checkers employee that doesn't have a Walmart employee attitude. Same company???LOL! Ok, off subject, I know. McD's could stay open just from selling fries I think!!

had them they were pretty nasty and soggy, the burgers
are sloppy, too.

It's still there, that first one, on hallowed ground. When you entered there in 1960 you were in another world, like hamburger heaven. Everything was stainless. They actually made shakes from scratch with real ice cream & fresh milk. And the burgers were made from real meat, not a patty. Chemical preservatives, artificial colors, artificial flavors hadn't been invented yet. I still make food like this, but I'm too busy to open a "real" hamburger chain.Someday, you might be able to eat like this again. ...Alfred-

soybean something or another taste...but you know i'm only 47yrs old and when I was younger
like 14yrs old, mcdonalds was the bomb....I mean, I had their slogan down pat, just in case they called my number you'd win big time money...anybody remember that? thee ole, two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame bun...yea..and that burger was downright delicious.....so throughout the years I have no ideal what they've done to their burgers but I can just smell them and get nauseated....I hate Mcdonalds food now....and alot has to do with the food is just bad tasting now, its all about slinging those burgers out hundreds at a time, and they do sling....ever got a mcdonalds burger, opened it up and it was a complete mess and I always got the kid with the acne and dirty fingernails, who had absolutely no ideal what he was doing, bless his heart...I mean,,,I can't handle mcdonalds anymore....but there was a time when they were good, but BK has them beat by all means Vince.

2-26-2010 @12:12AM Michael said... Comparing a small order at McDonald's to a large order at Arby's seems a little unfair. Though even in a fair competition, McDonald's would still win: the large order has 500 calories, 25 g fat, and 350 mg sodium.

2-28-2010 @3:15PM Georgia Jane said... Comparing "large" sizes to each other isn't fair at all. Large sizes at some fast food joints weigh much more than at other places. But comparing a small McDonald's fry to anyone's large is downright egregious. That sounds like McDonald's doing a little tricky promotion for themselves, and I see right through that.
For anyone who cares to google information to find the truth, here is the REAL story.
Arby's small curly fry 128 grams, 410 calories, 3.20 calories per gram
Arby's medium curly fry 170 grams 540 calories, 3.18 calories per gram
Arby's large curly fry 201 grams, 640 calories, 3.18 calories per gram
McDonald's small fry, 71 grams, 230 calories, 3.24 calories per gram
McDoinald's medium fry, 117 grams, 380 calories, 3.25 calories per gram
McDonald's large fry, 154 grams, 500 calories, 3.25 calories per gram
Five Guys "regular" fries, 244 grams, 620 calories, 2.54 calories per gram
The above comparison shows that this article so full of errors, you cannot believe what you read, you have to do the research for yourself to know the truth. Not only are McDonald's fries more caloric gram-for-gram than Arby's, but they are also ripping off the consumer in their sizing, having smaller weights for each of the small, medium and large designations. Five Guys has been harmed by this article, as their fries prove to actually have the lowest caloric content gram-for-gram. If I were them I would sue whoever put this article out.
2-26-2010 @8:19AM LinC said... What they don't tell you is that a "small" order of fries at McDonald's is difficult to get. You have to remember to ask for it. All of the meal deals come with medium fries, which are twice the size and twice the calories. A "small" fries comes in a little paper packet, not the red cardboard tube.

2-26-2010 @12:56PM Stan said... Why doesn't anyone mention the chemicals that go into these fries? Everyone knows that McDonalds' french fries are "addictive!" LOL
Well... THEY ARE!!!! Remember how the guy in "Supersize Me" started going into "withdrawal" between meals at McDonalds?
Seriously, their secret ingredient is obviously some type of glutamate. Without that, they wouldn't taste that good.

They have 5,530mg of sodium. Yup, that's right, five and a half grams of sodium, or about two and a quarter teaspoons of table salt (or five teaspoons of kosher salt).

I hate it that they put the salad bars in the way of the dessert counters in so many of those establishments. Its bad enough that I can't light up after a satisfying meal at most of the dumps we dine at. I make up for that in the car ride back home...the kids don't mind. I used to be proud of the freedoms I helped protect for this country. Those freedoms are sacred....and what could be more sacred than breaking breading? I want my country, and my spoon, back!!

2-28-2010 @12:09PM cotton said... Uncle Richie take your head out and come up for air. What Larry says is true. The Govt. has created a "buffer zone" between we the people and every industry in American. And it is not for "our own good" this has been done. Its for control of our lives and if you do not see that then you are so under their spell that you actually think you have free choice. You think YOU raise your children? Just try spanking your child. You think YOU have a say in how your child is educated? You'd better check with the teachers union because you do not sir. The list goes on and on. All to say Govt. protection to the point we have it today is NOT freedom. When your free yoiu have the option of doing it your way as long as it does not infringe on anothers rights. Your as free as a caged parrot.
