BK's A.1. Steakhouse XT Burger Tested

Rachel Been, AOL

Yesterday, Slashfood announced that Burger King had unveiled its new Steakhouse XT Burger line. Today, we got our hands around one and taste-tested the "premium" burger, A.1. Steakhouse XT. The massive thing weighs in at 7 ounces, which is 30% more beef than those of McDonald's Angus Third Pounders. It's topped with crispy fried onions, two slices of American cheese and A.1. Steak Sauce.

The complete review after the jump.

A.1. Steakhouse XT
Grade: C+
Burger connoisseurs will be disappointed with this behemoth patty. The texture of the meat resembled meatloaf (and not in a good way) -- it was over-handled, overly compacted and flavorless. Crunchy (not soggy) fried onions sort of made up for the bland beef. The A.1. Steak Sauce mixed with mayo was way too sweet for our testers, however. The bottom of the cornmeal-dusted bun really isn't up to the task of supporting the weight of the patty and quickly becomes an obsolete, mushy mess.

While our obsession for crunchy fried onions was satisfied, we won't be ordering another anytime soon -- we'll stick with the original Whopper.

Goes it come with obesity tablets and a pump to force it down you throat? Sll you need is a taste of a new burger to decide of whether it is worth eating. What you do after that is you business. If you're a pig, maybe you'll gobble them down til you burst. If you're a normal human being, you'll savor the experience, than move on to the next part of your lives and not blame burger king for being obese or anorexic. But then there are the elite amongst you who think only you know how people should live. YOU are the dangerous ones, not Burger King.

And if you're worried about the calary count, don't eat there. Fast food is great once in a while a couple of times a month, not for an every day meal, have a brain.

Probably just hearing how many calories that piece of crap has could send you to the hospital. And sadly they wouldn't have room for you because of all the other people that suffered from just lookin' at the junk.

Why is it, with all of the discussion there is about the obesity problem and what can be done to solve the problem, the fast food restaurants do just the opposite of what they should be doing - making bigger and bigger sandwiches. They could be such an important part of solving the obesity problem if they'd just serve normal size sandwiches/fries/drinks instead of the supersized. Yes, it's a personal choice what people want to eat, but all these restaurants do is tempt those with eating disorders such as compulsive eaters, to eat more. It's a shame, that the almighty dollar is still more important than anything else in this country!!

Keep it that way !!!! This stuff is not made to eat every day. If people do ......... they get fat. Put it on THEM ......... it's not the restaurants fault. Learn control people !!!!!

Americans that are over weight typically give directions by referencing a food establishment (Go down to the McDonald's, turn left, go until to come to the Shakey Pizza Parlor, turn left, ...). Discussions about how good a place is usually begin with something like, "Boy you should see the size of the burger they serve, and unlimited fries ...."

It seems to be an American way of life.
