Gimme Back that Filet-O-Fish...Again

Just when you got that aggravating Filet-o-Fish jingle out of your head once and for all, "Big Mouth Billy Bass" has reared his ugly head again.

With Lent comes fish, as many Catholics give up eating meat on Fridays in the weeks leading up to Easter. McDonald's quickly capitalized on the holiday by airing a follow-up ad featuring the now-famed crooning catch of the day.

The infamously beefy fast-food giant will also offer two fish sandwiches for $3.

Interestingly enough, meatless Fridays are what prompted Lou Groen to create the Filet-o-Fish in 1962, after losing business on Lenten Fridays at his McDonald's franchise in heavily Roman Catholic Cincinnati.

The sandwich not only saved his restaurant but ultimately led to the sale of 300 million Filet-o-Fish sandwiches annually at McDonald's around the world. Of those 300 million, 25 percent of those sales come from the 40-day period before Easter Sunday.

Lent or no lent, I like that silly fish sandwich. It tastes good and has a nice crunch. Everybody else's fish sandwich is mushy. I still like McDonald's food.

McDonalds long ago switched to vegetable shortening and then recently switched again to non tranny vegetable oil.
The real problem with their fries is the MSG tinged salt. Their fries are non-vegan, vegetarian safe but still deadly if you have hypertension.
As a somewhat practicing Catholic, I do like their fish sandwhiches during Lent. I had three for my one-meal allowed Ash Wednesday fast and they were YUMMY!

McDonald's sandwich IS VERY SMALL, as is Wendy's, compared to the two I mentioned, and the prices are relatively the same (with Burger King, offering in the Lakeland Florida area, two fish for three dollars!!! And understand this, one can fill me up and I'm a big man. Also, in this area, the Double Cheeseburger at Burger King is THE KING, bigger than McD's and Wendy's and only a dollar. Sorry, McD is DEAD LAST when it comes to me pulling in there for a quick meal.

lent is not about not eating fish but about making a small sacrifice.

giving up fast food all together is a good one

I ate at BK once, back in the seventies. I guess it never impressed me enough to ever eat there again. I'm glad they have a following and have stayed in business.

I love McDonalds fish sandwiches when they are hot and fresh if they sit very long they get nasty. My hubby got me a fish from Burger King that was dry and Nasty.I still prefer McDonalds. At this time of year i usually go get their double fish sandwiches. McDonalds food is good if it is fresh but if it sits too long it gets yucky and I'd say about 5 minutes under their heat lamps is too long.

How long the cooked food sits iin the drawer is supposed to be timed. Best way to get crispy hot fries is to ask for them without salt. They'll drop a new batch, and you'll get them fresh from the fryer. You may have to wait a few minutes, but it's worth it. (Tricks from somebody that worked at Mikky D's many years ago)
