The casual-dining chain will run an ad during Super Bowl XLIV between the Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints, announcing that customers can come to participating restaurants on Feb. 9, from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. for free Grand Slam breakfasts, Nation's Restaurant News reported.
"We are leveraging the power of the Super Bowl once again to connect with our customers to keep Denny's in their hearts and minds," Nelson Marchioli, Denny's president and chief executive, told NRN.
Denny's said it served 2 million Grand Slam breakfasts during the promotion last year.
The Super Bowl ad will feature chickens, shocked at the breakfast giveaway, and tell customers "it's going to be a tough week for egg layers," Denny's told NRN.
Denny's, which like other casual-dining restaurants, has experienced a slump in sales during the economic downturn, and in addition to the Super Bowl ad and Grand Slam giveaway, the company told NRN it is hoping to highlight value this year. Other promotions include free Grand Slam breakfasts on birthdays and free refills on pancakes or fries.
"We know that times are still tough and a free, hot breakfast helps a lot of folks and their families," Marchioli told NRN.
"We heard from thousands last year who thanked us. This year Denny's will go beyond just one day of free meals by offering a number of everyday affordable programs all year."

so ungrateful for a free meal?? I'll tell you what kind of person would be so ungrateful.. It's the same fat, greasy slob you see at a cafeteria home style food, except it's ALL YOU CAN EAT.. Oh, and yes this slob eats... So much, that the restaurant now has a lien put on it from the bank, b/c this slob is eating all the profits!! Yes indeed, it's the same bald headed fat, greasy slob you also see at a flea market or yard sale.. There they are, getting the deal of a lifetime... Yet, the slob is also a greasy greedy slob! This slob's slogan is "Be a Money Miser." Cheat does not become anyone and neither does greed! So the slob does all this crap, yet we don't know why!!!

Bottom line with any discount, whether it be a paper coupon or a promotion, the tip should be based on the prediscounted price. These waiters, waitresses, hosts, and hostesses work hard for their money, they don't get paid much, but wish for decent tips and their lives depend on it. Maybe, just maybe, like the rest of us, they fell on hard times and that was the only job they could get at the time, afterall, everyone has to eat!

Employees who work where tips are a needed portion of their income should remember a few things: 1. tipping is NOT mandatory but voluntary. Your tip is not a right but rather must be EARNED by you. You have no automatic right to any tip at all. 2. If your income depends on tips, EARN them....lose the attitude, be nice...no matter what. It's your income that's at stake after all. You would think this would be common sense.....3. Realize that for every non or poor tipper, another will over tip, thus averaging things out. 4. A tip (ANY tip) is a monetary compliment for good service, not for just showing up. So, bottom line, put on your happy face, give outstanding service without any hint of attitude and the tips will come. That simple.

A person tips for the quality of the food and of the service. So leave a buck or two and be a decent guy! I think you would be complaing if the shoe was on the other foot. (and you were working as a server
Denny's is making a concerted effort to overhaul their memu items so that people like myself who want to treat ourselves to a breakfast out on occassion can do so without getting sick.. Denny's, like many other restaurant chains are working to reduce the sodium levels and fat content of their menu items to allow cardiac patients to eat there. Denny's is scheduled to roll out their Heart-Healthy menu later in 2010.
